I've found myself wandering back to RB more and more frequently - reading through some PB18 & PB13 threads with nostalgia. Couple of questions:
1. Is PB34 a good read? (any particular thread?)
2. Do you guys think that Civ VI has a chance of providing epic games to lurk? (I have still only managed to play the game roughly 30 turns myself.. learning a new game seems somehow overwhelming currently)

I tried to get into Civ V .... I really, really did .... but when the MP games kept crashing around turn 100 .... I stopped caring.
I might try Civ VI by the time Civ VIII comes out

It looks like it has potentially good enough mechanics to be epic. Biggest concern is that there is no built in PBEM, let alone pitboss. Hard to really be epic without big games and decent pace. No map editor either.
On the other hand, it appears a third party has modded in PBEM support already. Disappointing that firaxis didn't include it, but at least it is possible.
There's a PBEM starting this week, which should give a better picture of whether there is hope. I'll be watching to see how the technical aspects go, and whether balance is possible with minimal bans.

Looks like modability is something the devs want to restrict for the game. Saw the discount over the weekend on Steam and noticed from recent reviews that the Steamworks logo has been drooped from the game, meaning the devs have no intention of helping the mod community for the forseeable future.

In terms of the balance, the planned PBEM is going to use the 4-leaf clover map (and there's another version of it for 6 players) so we'll see if it produces a balance in terms of location and resources at least.
In terms of mod support, for what it's worth, the devs said they're working on steam workshop and mod tools ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYoFgUTm...u.be&t=25s ) in their last dev video, but of course we've heard similar words from other game devs before, so who knows...

Ugh, really? I love how for both Civ V and VI they rode the hype train with ephemeral marketing promises of "the most moddable Civ evar!!!" and then it turns out they still aren't as moddable as Civ 4, which actually included mods in one of the expansions...
