TheArchduke plays Rome

I am starting to dislike the look on Sulla´s warrior, right now he is blocking my city site..

Two rather critical decisions at this point.

Build a Holy or Campus District for a quick early shot at a great Person or Religion (with 4 players mayhaps a religious victory is possible)

Or go the safe route and get another settler really quick, I am leaning towards the settler, although we could certainly use the boost to culture.

My 2 warriors close in on Sullla´s warrior, hopefully he gets the message to leave my territory alone.

I am inclined to push for a 2nd settler asap, it seems I am already a bit behind Imposterome and Germany.

What are your long term plans? How do you see things shaking out with fake Rome and the rest?

First of all, I am pretty sure I won´t play such a mirror map again, it seems rather boring compared to other maps.tongue

All in all,

My first plan it put down more cities then my opponents, as I want to take advantage of my industrial city state to the fullest.

Second of all, 2 turns from now, exploration should be impossible until ships for Hongkong, in contrast I try to sneak in my scout to Germany´s citystate. Sulllas one I won´t be able to explore I fear. It is a religious one, so no issues there. (Judging from the victory screen information and his early Lady of the Reeds.

Thirdly, I want to push for a quick city in the center support by a rushed city wall, which will be my pet project.

Also from my experience in SP any District which is not com/ind is pretty much useless and with Hongkong around my priority will be industrial first, everywhere except Rome which might go commercial first. There is no upside in delaying Medieval in MP, except for citystates quest and the only one crucial is the cultural (build a spearman).

In my opinion I will not be able to win a war on equal footiing against a veteran like Sullla or the Aztecs, so I will bunker up and wait for a good time to strike.

How did your settling turn out? What are you researching? How do you plan to get that central city?

Well, Sullla forward settled the middle on me, I will post something about that next turn.

Well, Sullla does know his stuff and I don´t, it shows.

I am not sure how exactly but he has 3 cities, whilst I am desperately pushing out my 2nd settler.

The Aztecs are probably not in for the long game, if they kill a commercial city state they can safely protect from other players.

Thanks to a religious city state, Sullla has the Lady of the Reeds as well. Sigh.

I bought an overpriced copper to make sure and make a point to Sullla that I won´t tolerate further encroachment and the big question is, do I dare to settle the middle. I do not think so, because I do not want to anger the Aztecs before I have legions.

Thanks for the map, it really helps us lurkers see what is going on in the game.

You mentioned not wanting to anger the Aztecs before getting legions, are you teching towards it now? What are your tech plans and why?

How are you intending to respond to Sullla's city right up at your borders?

Good news, the´s Germany forward settled way more aggressively towards the Aztecs then me, so any wrath will surely befall him.

I doubt I can risk Republic so i went Oligarchy for now, maybe even triggering some more military buildup by others.

And Arpinum is forward settled and will be equipped with a slinger and walls soon.

I go with the settler policy and will fill up 3 more cities as quickly as possible. I am not sure why the others especially Sullla built their cities so far apart. I prefer more cities then less cities.
