I was wondering when they'd show up, hopefully it'll take a while for him to get back to camp. Should have popped onto the hill with the scout, but I guess we'll get a builder onto it anyway soon enough. Given there's coast in the south-west, send the scout to cotton?

Whilst the hill would have been nice, I desperately need to cover more ground quickly as my warrior is a huge disappointment.

I need to work improved tiles, so the warrior will need to come home at this point. I am even considering a 2nd scout after the worker.frown

But the hill does cover more ground! It would have revealed a bunch of times that way and potentially indicated a CS presence there, whereas the present move only revealed a couple new tiles.

Yeah, the warrior return is a must. I wouldn't say his results are disappointing, found two rivers, outline of the continent. No city states is sad, but they are even less of a given southeast -- this is a pangea stretched landscape, so there is simply not that much space southwards, even if it bulges quite a bit from the coastline we see in the southwest.

Don't build another scout! We need a more serious military now, probably a slinger after the builder, and then another singer via gold. We do need three city states for political philosophy, but we still have time to discover them.

How are the score counts looking, does it seems that anyone lucked out on science/culture city states?

I seriously considered buying the 2p tile to the west, but my experience so far shows that money is something we should hold onto for a bit of an emergency, still it would be a nice quick boost to the current situation.

Still no red tiles for settling apart from our Captial and the mountains, I assume the CS are hiding behind the jungle.

I fear Alhamabam has found a culture CS, he jumped ahead and no religious has been found.

I think I can scout one more tile to the NW with my warrior and then he has to go home to protect my worker. Yeah a slinger or warrior next depending on the situation seems to be the smart play.

The scout will go East, East and try to circle around the Capital up to the NE.

Can you post the score screen when you next have the chance? It would be good to see if anyone finishes techs or civics before we do. And the warrior will at least uncover another row of tiles to the north on his return.

Someone has 2 civics, probably a culture plant or CS, one has Empire 8, whilst everyone else has 7.

It will be interesting to see if someone has not played SP with barbarians enough to be suprised by their ferocity. In any case. Someone has religious points now.

Saddle up, stuff is finally happening.

Germany is ridiculously close. How close? This close:

   

If I had a movement point left, I would have been VERY tempted to kill off that scout. Germany has Hansas and second mil civic, we have a bonus civic.

We have a decent early unique unit, he has not. I am about 70% sure that for us to be successful Germany has to die, he is too close.

Bad stuff, we will probably not encounter a CS and get a bonus envoy. I have no idea what Sullla was smoking with this map, but I do not see which CS I should have been supposed to check out first.

Now Civics, straightforward, I will not waste a Mil Civic on my lone scout, because he will stay lone. +5 against Barbarians is needed, there are already horseman around.

   

Also, I am using the +5 to get some experience, culture (as Sparta) and gold in. And a boost. The oppurtunity is too good to miss and worst comes to worst we rush buy a slinger, or the worker will wait for 1-2 turns.

   

A very basic dotmap and an overview over the situation. We will go Craftsmanship next for Agoge, because I will need military to either feel safe or crush Germany, preferably the latter. I think I should use my bad record and my passivity in the first PBEM to launch a very early, very brutal suprise attack, maybe even with Hoplites, so killing 3 barbarians should be the next agenda. Maybe even forgoing a second city, but we will see about that.

   

I am also leading with +1 religion per turn, so I imagine noone has found a religious CS. It seems 3 people are running God King. Except for Germany.
Wow, what a nice opening the coffee settle would have been.

I am reading this thread with much interest, it's just that not too much happens in the early game, so not much to comment on.

Meeting Germany is news, though!

As a lurker who has seen the map script - I will simply say that the map is, not completely fair, but as fair as one can be with a random map.
