Are there other people interested in starting a new Civ6 pbem? I saw some people express interest in the general civ 6 thread. I've been having a blast ded-lurking Ichabod in pbem3 and following along in 4, it's only made me more eager to give MP a shot with Civ6.

I'm basically in the same boat. I also really don't know how much time I can commit, as a working adult, so I'd do it only if my participation is the difference between not having enough players and this game actually happening.

Do you want guides about the gameplay or just the technical side of stuff?
If it's just technical, the thing works kind of like a Civ 4 PBEM, but you use the hotseat option instead. After you play your turn, you save the game and that generates a save for the next player turn. You have to send that save to the next player.
To make things simpler, we use this site: https://www.playyourdamnturn.com/
You have to log in to the site using your steam account info. The host will open a game that you have to join, following the turn order of the game. When it's your turn, you'll receive an e-mail. There's the option of downloading a program to your computer to help, but I don't use the program, so I can't speak about how it works. When I receive the email, I click the link and it goes to the game's webpage, where there's an option to download the turn (you need to be logged in to steam and it needs to be your turn). I open that save on the hotseat option of Civ 6 and play my turn. After that, I save my own turn on top of the save I received and upload it to the webpage (there's an option there for you to upload a turn, when it's your turn). PYDT will do the rest for you and forward the save to the next player. It's pretty simple.
If you want MP advice, the best MP stuff for Civ 5 and 6, in my opinion, comes from FilthyRobot. Just look for his videos in youtube. He plays a lot of Civ 5 and 6 MP, so it's not SP "how to break the AI" stuff. Word of advice, I think he plays in a group that use a Mod to change things in the game and I think his videos are a bit old, not up to the latest patches (that's a problem mostly in the actual game videos, not the guides, the guides are about vanilla game). But I find that most of the time, he knows what he's talking about and it checks out with my MP experience as well. He has guides about the top civs, wonders, civic cards, pantheons, as well as newbie guides. I think the top lists are the best way to learn what is exploitable in the game and you don't need to look at newbie stuff or game-management stuff, as the advices he gives is pretty basic to someone that knows Civ 4 so well.
Anyway, I'm not sure if you are willing to watch videos to learn, but I don't think you'll find good written information about the game. There's a lot of blatantly wrong information going around in wikis and civfanatics, not helped by the fact that the patches changed stuff. The civfanatics strategy and tips forum has a nice formula thread, which helps to understand the cost of districts, the value you get from chops (they change based on how much techs/civics you have), upgrade costs, etc. But, as usual, civfanatics is mostly SP stuff and most posters don't understand that the same stuff that works against AI will not work in MP.
Anyway, you can probably figure most stuff out for yourself, even better than what I could teach you (game is pretty new, we are not sure of what's good and what's not yet). Also, I bet you'll get a lot of lurkers and ded-lurkers to help you.

You need between 15 minutes and one hour to play the turn, I'd say. If you take the game lightly, it won't cost you that much time. I mostly think about my games while I try to fall asleep or when I'm taking a shower. Usually reporting takes more time, but it's not like you need to do it.

If you know the player count in let's say... 16 hours from this post, I can get a map rolled for this game. Won't promise editing unless someone can point me to the easiest way to try and wrestle the world builder into working.

I'd be interested in anything but island plates (already doing that.) DLC or no DLC? Diplo or in-game diplo/communications only? Random leaders or some sort of pick scheme?

I haven't bought any DLC, so I was imagining this with the base game + Aztecs. If everyone else wants to use a particular DLC I'm not opposed to purchasing one.
As for the map, I'd love some kind of snakey map where everything is on the same landmass but with islands, but I understand that isn't an option like it is in civ 4 (note to self: tinker with Civ6 map scripting). So I'd settle for a semi-balanced pangaea.
Edit: in-game diplo only. Not interested in a diplo game.

Edit: in-game diplo only. Not interested in a diplo game. Base game +Aztecs is fine (DLCs are fun but not balanced..at all.) Probably be more fun to roll a random Pangaea (using balanced start option) and just have the map checked to make sure no one is shut out of horses or iron. I'd even leave on goody huts since Civ 6 isn't balanced anyway...makes the game play more interesting. Glad to do in game diplo only.
