Sorry for spamming. If the western civ would be Russia, it could give all the high yield tiles upon founding the city. That would be great. The city could immediately work the sugar (it is 5food). And citrus, all for high growth and with irrigation and the amenities, stay in the green for early nice growth.

Cornflakes: it looks like based on that screenshot, my pick/slot is the civ on the left. will we be able to pick which of us is in which position here, or is that locked into place by virtue of the map?
Either way I do think I want Rome, just wanting to see the confirmation.

I should read better.

Good choice
Actually if we can manage to grab Russia, I would say, Russia should take the left spot as it grabs all the nice luxuries immediately. We can discuss the details though.

So, these are the picks so far, Russia is still available. My fear is that Archduke selects Russia Let's see what will happen. Interestingly, so far only one DLC civ has been picked. Maybe Mike and Archduke choose DLC civs, which would be good for us.
Players (Teams)
Team 1 Japper (Kongo) /Mikeforall
Team 2 Emperor K (Germany) /TheArchduke
Team 3 BrickAstley (Rome) /Singaboy

Kongo Khmer? They must be going for a cultural victory type of thing.

Kongo and Khmer is an odd pairing to be sure. It looks like they are going for some kind of religious/cultural strategy since both civs have an ability involving relics. The idea is that the Khmer missionaries all start with the Martyr promotion, and then when they die they produce relics that produce major benefits for the Khmer (since relics are tradeable between players). They will assuredly go for the Reliquaries belief that triples faith and tourism output from relics. Perhaps it will work, but that feels like a niche strategy compared to taking otherwise powerful civs. I'm not sure if they understand that missionaries/apostles only produce relics when they die in religious combat, not when those units die in general. You can't just walk those units up to a barbarian or get them killed by an enemy unit - it has to be a death via religious combat with an enemy apostle or inquisitor. And religious tourism drops in half fairly early in the game, as soon as The Enlightenment civic is researched. This is a very narrow strategy that seems to have only one path to victory and gets telegraphed to the other teams a mile away. I'm dubious about its effectiveness, but we'll see.
Germany is a generically good choice and this seems like a start well suited for them. For our team's upcoming pick, we're now guaranteed either China or Russia since TheArchduke is the only one still picking before Brick. I'm also thinking at this point that this map looks better suited for Russia than for China. I'd go with Peter if he's still there, and Qin Shi Huang if he's not. Last call to make other civ suggestions if we want to discuss them as a group.

My only thought is if Russia is picked, do we go for China without the stone for Stonehenge? Still really nice to have the guaranteed wonders and extra boost pickups, just won't have the easy early religion to go with it.

I agree with the choices, though I hope we will get Russia. As it will be my pick, I look forward to playing them. I expect Archduke to make a good, strong choice. For all we know, he might choose one of those early game OP nations such as Scythia or Sumer?

Well, TheArchduke has picked Russia. That's a real shame since he was apparently debating between several options. I still think China is a good pick here, although the lack of visible stone in that starting screenshot definitely hurts. Is there anything else that we'd like to consider? Australia and Gorgo/Greece are still available, although I don't think this is necessarily a great map for Australia. What are you two thinking?
