Similar to not being able to play a PBEM, I don't have the ability anymore to get a map created for this game in any reasonable period of time. Very sorry, I was looking forward to it as well. Hopefully someone(s) else will be able to supply something so we can have one more giant game.

Well, personally I think it's more fun to see the start as it leads to more interesting selection process so I would vote for it. I'm fine with whatever dtay as the game initiator decides though
My take as powerless thread initiator:
1) Wait for starts before selecting, selections shouldn't take more than a few days if we avoid snake pick so this isn't much of a delay beyond whatever delay exists to get the map.
2) Use the PB32 method, which as I understand it is: You are given 2 leaders and 1 civ, you can reroll up to twice choosing either leaders or civ. The ones available to get on reroll are the ones other people send back into the pool + the previously undrawn. In terms of FAQ style clarifications:
a) I vote you have to reroll both leaders, primarily to keep the number of leaders available on reroll high. If people feel otherwise
b) Also vote no option to "hold", if you aren't going to reroll you need to pick a leader/civ combination and send your extra leader back to the pool.
Re: Brick
:/, hope things are well / start being well. I think that leaves Mardoc and Krill as people who have partially expressed interest in map-like things and aren't playing, are either of you up to being primary mapmaker?
Alternatively, any other volunteers or suggestions of who to ask?

PB32 was just one leader and one civ. You can choose to reroll one or both or lock in your choice.

I can make the map, but to be clear, I'm aiming to basically have a finished map in one sitting, built on 23/12/17 and will be generating base maps to look through the week prior. That'll leave the Xmas period for the map to be checked and people to pick leaders and civs.
I will need decided settings before then, sooner is always better.

I'm fine with the recently proposed options for selecting civ/leader. I like the idea of releasing your not utilized civ or leader back to the general selection pool.
Map request: Wherever possible, use the map to mitigate the effects of global warming. Forests on all mountains for example, as well as forests on ocean tiles that would not impede naval combat. I'm not sure if boats would receive the terrain bonus and I'm too lazy to sim to find out but if there are areas of the map that are unneeded for players' use then put some forests on these where practical.

I can help check the map, but I definitely don't have the time to do anything more than that. Krill's proposed schedule works fine for me, I won't be traveling for Christmas, and the Christmas weekend is about all I'm going to have free to help with this anyway.

"2 leaders and 1 civ, option to reroll" sounds good to me, incidentally.
Also, should we do a roll call to make sure that everyone who stated interest is actually still here?

No, which is a bit of shame as if you ask me, it's actually more annoying than Civ 1/2/3 global warming, where you could either prevent global warming entirely or repair the damage entirely.
