Met Kumasi to SE. After someone else. Bacchus is Rome but is second in culture, Emperor K is first in culture QED Emp K is SE neighbour.
Also, lots of barb camps. I really believe 1 unit>settler is the right move in these games...

It is better to be lucky than good.
Kandy discovered just as I needed to decide to use God King or Urban Planning, UP is obvious choice now. And the quest is to kill the barb camp. That gives the inspiration for Political Philosophy, and means the settler will complete eot17 with 1 production overflow, using the sheep for 2 turns to try and speed up regrowth to size 3.
That means need to lock down the second city location, but the warrior is currently 2 turns away from killing a barb camp. Probably have to retreat the scout to cover the settler.

The lands are all quite interesting to try and dotmap.
So...I'm still thinking 44447 looks good, but even with an immediately bought monument, I will not have a location to put a holy site unless I buy a tile, or place it on the desert hill 9 of the city tile. Settling on the tea has the same problem unless I accept putting it 3 of the tea. Actually, that desert hill isn't an awful idea, and with the barb camp being taken out next turn that should be able to buy the monument about a turn or two after settling. Barb encampments give 50 gold right? Or is it era dependent, I forget. Anyway, working two 5 food tiles with a 1/3 and a 1/2/3 tile is great. I'll have to work around Iikum and deciding on how to tech craftsmanship. If I'm dropping 30 hammers into a Holy site, in two cities then probably best to build one builder pre-Craftsmanship and then get 2 more out in Iikum. I can farm the rice, pasturize the horse and then either mine the gems. Pottery is completed minus one turn, AH is 7 turns away and Mining the same, but when you consider I also have to research Astrology from next turn and give up on getting the eureka, I will likely just have to drop all three charges on the capital ASAP to get the inspiration. That means improving rice, horse, and either the second rice or the sheep.
That would potentially delay HS at the capital, but city 2 could just place the HS and drop production straight into it. Also have to consider that buying the monument will push Craftsmanship straight to half way. With the second city planted T22...I can't finish a builder before T24. Inspiration due either T32 or T30 depending on improving the sheep or the second rice third. Still, that's not much different to hard researching Craftsmanship with the bought monument.

There is of course another option. Buy a builder, use that to trigger Craftsmanship much earlier, get the HS district down sooner. It sacrifices growth and probably around 100 culture in second city, but it would bring agoge and a potential warrior rush of a city forward 6 or so turns. Is it worth it? I would also have most of the gold needed for a slinger upgrade as well.
I think not, because I think I wouldn't have the tech to put down pastures and farms as in need to swap to Astrology, but it's worth a thought.

Barb encampments give 50g. At least for normal speed and prince settings.
You're kind of stuck between two cities with different needs. The capital wants a builder because its tiles are all better with improvements. The 2nd city out west doesn't need builder improvements but wants culture so it can get the 2 sugar and gems worked faster. I think I would buy the monument because it works like a pseudo-inspiration for Craftsman and also solves the problem of needing those 3 tiles at the 2nd city right away. Then the builder only has to worry about getting eurekas for the tiles it improves, and 2 of those are at the capital which wants improvements anyway.
Which religious beliefs are you aiming for? Seems like the big choice for first religion is between Jesuit Education and Choral Music.

Do you want to double some faith for culture generation early game or spend faith mid game to boost science?
At a guess, with a culture CS there and an early bought monument, I'd say that cheap theatre districts push Japan towards Jesuit Education. Especially with Kandy as a potential Holy Site booster for a period that gets libraries up so production goes into other things like military.

A little more complicated than that. Taking choral music means not needing to pay the opportunity cost of slotting in theatre districts at those population levels.
But I think Jesuit with half priced theater districts is a good plan. I'd consider Goddess of the Harvest to really emphasize the mid game push. You might even have enough faith to buy a few amphitheaters.

Hmmmm. You make a good point about GotH. The faith output is multiplied by chops, or is it just the base harvest yield that is second produced as faith?
If it's multiplied, then that seems massive especially if we can stay on top of discounted districts. We'll have to get things moving quickly as well, get this snowball rolling, so other than buying the missionary, what's the best plan? Quick conquest of a city state? Build some units, clear out the barb camp for the quest for Kandy, then try and take down Bandar ASAP?
