In a way, that will be the best time to attack, maintanance costs will be high and with a little luck, they'd catch some of the more developed cities with lighter than normal garisons.

Darrell - thought you might be feeling like that. smile

True on smiting Spullla now being a good opportunity, but AFAIK Dantski is the only person in a sensible position to do so and he's locked himself into 10 turns of peace...

I think writing the game off this early is a little premature. HRE has a strong economy, plako/broker have played an excellent game after getting praet stomped, Slaze might well be a contendor as he's just in some temporary economic mess with some strong military options, Kathlete and Whosit both have a lot of land at the moment... wait and see, says I! smile

Spulla have made sure to never leave their bottom flank exposed and so even a betrayl by Dantski would just prompt a round of severe whipping, then some severe whipping of his armies. When the knights come on line, that line of attack will be essentially closed, short of massive co-operation between plako and Dantski.

If Jowy did gift all his cities to Kathlete then it would just crush his economy to have all those distant undeveloped cities, he isn't even in a strong economic position anyway. That is why I think Jowy doing a scorched earth is the best bet to slow Spulla down.

One of the major reasons everyone thinks Spulla is going to walk all over everyone is they are so detailed in their posts. Because of all the spreadsheets and discussion about combining Organized religion and whipping and all the othe little details, they seem so much more in control. Whereas HRE seems to be doing an excellent job of their empire management and economy, but since they don't talk about it as much it doesn't seem as special.

The one thing Spulla were really wrong about, was that Nakor needed to attack Dantski to get enough space to be competitive. With the rich inland island and the great outer islands there is plenty of good cities to found if you are bold enough to take them.

While there is plenty of space, I think it may be quite a bit harder to properly defend a multi-island/landmass empire compared to an empire on one landmass only.... I think we'll see sometime during this game smile

I have to admit I am not reading the HRE thread, so maybe I'm a bit premature in handing this one to India.

This. Military coordination has been terrible between the aggressors in this game. You simply can't capitalize on a numerical advantage in wartime if you're not making sure your movements are coordinated and synced.

So far we haven't seen any of the offshore islands attacked so it really remains to be seen. Spulla both have extensive MP experience and they want to avoid the difficulty of defending dispersed territories, but the island cities have incredible amounts of resources compared to a normal game, so they might be missing out by not taking the chance.

Okay, he will not get beaned. I am offically calling the game for Spulla. smile

The best chance to stop India was the big dogpile. This chance the CoW botched up completly. To make matters worse instead of signing Inca to the alliance Rome and Ottomans got greedy and made an illadvised attack against Inca. Now both have spend lot of time on military without gaining much and Inca had to whip his economy into units leaving all 3 far weaker than India.

The (soon to happen)assimilation of Greece into the Indian Empire will give the later a lot of nice fertile land and the chance to hurt the Ottomans severly. I wouldn't be too surprised if India takes the old byzantine area with their Anti-greece-stack and some Knights.

Do feel a little sorry for Jowy there, doesn't seem to think it's going to happen. Wonder if he whipped up all those cats he was thinking about?
