[Spoilers] Commodore bakes a double entenada.

I could certainly see it being easier to balance lush maps. Ref's done a solid balance job here, and Erwin your 39 looks good for balance too. But I suspect you might find that something like Full of Resources Totestra gives enough food to manage while making some very wild "natural" stuff and good exploration elements. I also think people peg the "balanced enough for neighbors to be the main thing" way too low.

My Bartle type is notably pretty solid spade, though.

What Bartle says:

♥ Socialisers are interested in people, and what they have to say. The game is merely a backdrop, a common ground where things happen to players. Inter-player relationships are important: empathising with people, sympathising, joking, entertaining, listening; even merely observing people play can be rewarding - seeing them grow as individuals, maturing over time. Some exploration may be necessary so as to understand what everyone else is talking about, and points-scoring could be required to gain access to neat communicative spells available only to higher levels (as well as to obtain a certain status in the community). Killing, however, is something only ever to be excused if it's a futile, impulsive act of revenge, perpetrated upon someone who has caused intolerable pain to a dear friend. The only ultimately fulfilling thing is not how to rise levels or kill hapless drips; it's getting to know people, to undertand them, and to form beautiful, lasting relationships.

Hah, that fits.

So errata I missed, Astronomy now requires Code of Laws, in addition to Calendar and Machinery. No big deal for me as I'm creative and have avoided the Meditation trap, but I suspect at least someone is going to get tripped up there. I do hate that blocking me from building the Sweaty Pizza. Might could justify bursting over to CoL for Confucianism before anyone else, but I did get a Hindu spread which is probably good enough. Forges in 2t and top of the GNP charts, nice while it lasts.

What Bartle says:

♠ Explorers delight in having the game expose its internal machinations to them. They try progressively esoteric actions in wild, out-of-the-way places, looking for interesting features (ie. bugs) and figuring out how things work. Scoring points may be necessary to enter some next phase of exploration, but it's tedious, and anyone with half a brain can do it. Killing is quicker, and might be a constructive exercise in its own right, but it causes too much hassle in the long run if the deceased return to seek retribution. Socialising can be informative as a source of new ideas to try out, but most of what people say is irrelevant or old hat. The real fun comes only from discovery, and making the most complete set of maps in existence.

I wasn't really expecting to be labeled "explorer" since I'm more a "stick to the rails" type of slub, but it seems to involve finding lore, exploits and mechanical interactions so that does fit me to a T.

Okay. Gavagai is hurting Plako. I'm going in in 4 turns if he keeps fighting.

Well, that's certainly one solution to ennui! Also, yay blood.

What sort of attack are you thinking of? Going to give us good pictures of the blood?

I spoke to your intrepid lurking reporter, Scooter:

Okay
Gavagai vs Plako. I kind of have to jump in with Praetorians.
scooter
ooohhhhh
That’s exciting
Commodore Sven
What was going to be a wave of forges is another wave of praets.
scooter
Why not. best chance to do somethign
Commodore Sven
I might actually be able to get some gains.
scooter
Especially if you time it right
Assuming it’s real anyway. It’s gavagi, probably. (Note: I have 0 idea what’s going on in either of their worlds, almost certainly know less than you)
At this point I’m basically just following the key threads, which is yours, TBS, Mackoti, Rusten, OH. Couple others occasionally
Commodore Sven
War chariots are going to gut Plako fast.
You can see the power levels in my thread.
scooter
yeah that looks… like trouble
Does plako have anything to deal with that?
Over/under 1.5 spears seen
Commodore Sven
Well, he's been mixing pretty consistently.
He's mixing axes with spears, obviously been worried about my swords too. Even spears aren't perfect.
scooter
Not building enough spears has long been a civ mp bugaboo. Too many people overly trained from years of fending off AI 1-mover stacks in SP
Commodore Sven
He's got a pretty experienced core thanks to the B4ndit kill, shock war chariots are nooo joke.
scooter
Yeah that’s true
This is really why 2-movers are evil
Shock is easier to get than formation
Commodore Sven
Plako's no dummy, but the GLH he just built was a big nasty.
Scooter
yeah
Is it reachable for you
Commodore Sven
I don't know. It's not near me or near Gav.
I...kind of hope Gavagai is near it.
I'd feel twitchy to take it.
scooter
yeah
Well, if you take it, gavagi also isn’t going to stop when plako is gone
You don’t pick plako to attack without a prize in mind
Commodore Sven
Exactly.
It wasn't my first plan, or even my second, but I don't think sidelining this is doable.
Gavagai with three civ's land won't stop.
scooter
If you’re Rome and are presented a dogpile opportunity in the age of praetorians
Let’s just say you don’t build forges
Commodore Sven
Oh yeah
Let's also just say I'm doing a happy dance about Pindicator.
He just landed Confucianism.
Which is great for his long-term development, but that's a big delay on chucklenaughts.
scooter
That seems nice
For everyone else

Commodore
Well
Honestly? I think it means I'm going to have to march back up and to the east as soon as Plako dies.
Because TBS and Gavagai won't sit still forever and I need to be on the right side of dogpiles.
scooter
How many cities does plako have
Commodore Sven
BUT, and this is sooo key, I want Gavagai and TBS to wind up with borders.
Same as me, ish
13
Well, heh.
scooter
Oh that would be nice
Commodore Sven
One less this turn.
Gavagai is going to be incentivized to punch up the east coast, as every coastal city gets +1 TR
I'm assuming he will own the GLH, but unless Plako makes a very smart peace treaty, I don't see him lasting twenty turns.
I'm going to use Charismatic happy to ignore Calendar another little while and push Machinery next. Trebuchets aren't as flexible as cats but they're on the beeline.
scooter
You should post a few overview shots of your border with plako showing a few more of his cities to give an idea of what’s reachable for you
Commodore Sven
Yeah, I had a quick turn this morning before work. If he's already played I'll have to wait for the roll.
scooter
Ah, gavagi posted. Well, I’m off to spoilerland to see what’s up. So my comments are probably done now beyond the usual tame remarks
Commodore Sven
Enjoy. And be sure to bay for blood, if lurker encouragement is going to screw me with superdeath it needs to help me with Gavagai.
scooter
gavagi doesn’t strike me as the type to need or care about baying
Commodore Sven
Hah, nope. He'll take the peace deal if he calculates it worthwhile,
otherwise he won't. I just hope he understands my diplo pane.
I offered iron for iron with him giving 4g.
scooter
Meaning seems obvious to me, but… gavagi and me are pretty different people haha12:25 PM
Commodore Sven
Yup
So...here's hoping. Praetorians are worth something up until cavs, so I don't mind cranking a ton out. Plako needs to negotiate a treaty with Gavagai soon or it's curtains. War goals,  if I can get the core stuff near me and keep a solid border, I'm thrilled. Galleys whipping next turn.
