[No Players] PBEM9 Lurker and Map making Thread

Peace with Bacchus seems like the right move for Ichabod. Not only will he have trouble continuing to push against the Romans, he has Krill bestirring himself over on his other flank (although he of course does not know that).

It's hard to know what's happening in the wider world with only 2 players reporting, but I am curious to see where things stand after this round of warring wraps up.

It appears that Ichabod has a slight edge against Rome. But a slight edge might be enough because the defender no longer has the insane 2x move bonus and there's no true corruption system in this game.

I'm just BSing it. The updates for this game is terrible so I really have no idea what's going on. Ichabod is also considering rage-quitting.

I don't think that edge is enough, I for one rate Rome's chances very highly.

So thats the reason why I had no Luxury at my start.

It's a pity that this game hasn't really piqued the interest from players and lurkers.

A couple of thoughts:

1. Russia is really, really good, especially knowing how the district discount works. Between half-cost Lavras and discounts, I never built a full cost district and it's very possible to plan things even better than I did.

2. Improvements suck, overall. I think my fast start was a combination of the pieces fallng into place (early pantheon from CS, very synergistic start with the pasture pantheon, etc), but also of avoiding improvements and focusing on chops. You need proper terrain for that, but it's pretty doable. Settling on luxuries also helps and shoul be done when possible.

3. I declared war on Rowain because I thought he wanted to pillage my TR with his scout, as his positioning seemed to indicate that (coupled with the fact that he messed with my 4th city placement by fortifying his scout). Finding the unguarded builder was just a bonus.

4. I didn't accept the Carthage for Proxy hatch deal due to morale (I don't want to give back a city I captured) and long term strategy reasons. As Bacchus pointed out in his thread, I was confident Rome couldn't damage me and there was no reason to give back a city that would give fast kinghts by itself. Carthage was never going to equal that strategic gain. Also, I needed Proxy Hatch camp to get my thrid Campus with a discount.

5. Civ 6 is a cool game, but it has some really annoying mechanics that really detract from the whole experience. Also, I don't accept that the game has no built in PBEM MP.

Why did this game crash and burn?

The lack of reporting by several the players made it difficult to track what was going on.  The reports that did occur generally showed the current game state but the amount of time/turns between posts gave no context as to how the game got there.
Sending units to their death since 2017.

Don't do what I did: PBEM 3 - Arabia , PBEM 6 - Australia This worked well enough: PBEM 10 - Aztecs Gamus Interruptus: PBEM 14 - Indonesia
Gathering Storm Meanderings: PBEM 15 - Gorgo You Say Pítati, I Say Potato: PBEM 17 - Nubia The Last of the Summer Wine: PBEM 18 - Eleanor/England
Rhymin' Simon: PBEM 20 - Indonesia (Team w/ China)
