RBP2 Lurker Discussion Thread - No Players!

Do most persistent (pitboss or pbem, not one-day lobby) multiplayer Civ games actually go to a victory condition? Or are they typically resigned to a team in the lead, like the Apolyton game? Seems to me that players get tired of a game long before an actual win condition.

PBEM 1 ended with #3 conceding and voting #1 into a diplo victory. If that hadn't happened, everyone was still some distance away from a culture or space win, and even had to agree not to run spy missions on each other to make those wins even possible.

There's alot to comment on, but I think I'll refrain from that until I've read through the thread, since you might already have answers to some questions you asked back then! Anyways, if you've got anything in mind, please ask! I'm back to reading.. Damn, I'm so motivated now that I'm reading stuff from last year. I wish I would have tried harder in the end, but it gets you down when you know that a game you've played for like 8 months is going to end soon no matter what.

Quote:It's a bit unfortunate there's been no updates to Dantski's thread lately, so it's a bit unclear just what he's planning. Same for Jowy actually.. perhaps they're coordinating their movements under the radar to avoid someone accidentally spoiling them?

About that, it was radio silence so our plans won't get spoiled. I suspected that with all those lurkers there's bound to be some spoilers and if our attack leaks out then we'll be dead (well, I ended up dead anyway rolleye). After reading the first 44 pages of the spoiler thread, but not player threads yet, I can already say there was more spoilers than I even suspected! Anyway, sorry for not keeping you guys updated, especially MWIN my only fan :D

@ Page 73 (Before CoW's attack)

The reason why I'm such "an incompetent player" is because.. I am. Compared to pretty much everyone else here anyway. I've played civilization since I saw my friend's dad playing it when I was seven years old. Pretty much all of my games of Civ2 and Civ3 were on settler difficulty, just messing around. Same with civ4 until I found CivFanatics and started improving my play and play in higher difficulty levels. I have played about 10 games on Noble/Prince, though never finished one. Plus about 30 mp games, they just tend to end very early due to people leaving.

I love Civ. I'm just inexperienced. I make smoke -moves because I'm a noob. But imo I definately played way over my limits in this game, my best round of civ so far! Looking forwards to playing in the PBEM4 and reporting more in-depth to get better feedback than "that Jowy guy, he's nuts!" lol

But I don't still don't get why he picked a leader with Financial Trait and then builds exactly 1 lousy cottage. With those rivers criss-crossing his lands, he'd be teching like there's no tomorrow!
This was a bad mistake. I didn't have enough workers at all. That's something that I've definately learned from this game. My few workers were busy roading to Thebes and connecting resources. I did cottage those rivers pretty heavy later on, but too little too late.

Welcome to the dead book Jowy...join us for a drink? It was getting lonely here although I have a feeling it will be crowded before too long wink.

Jowy, I think you can be quite proud of your performance considering your lack of experience compared most of the other players. On top of that you already talk about having learned a lot, which on top of it also sounding like you enjoyed the game just puts icing on the cake smile thumbsup
