Figured I should make a thread, might talk more about my current civ 6 experience later. For now we have a leader to pick.

Norway sounds pretty weak to me, given that it doesn't sound like a watery map.

Russia's gets 8 extra tiles upon city founding, Greece gets an extra wildcard policy slot. These abilities sound like the most important things to compare.

Peter's ability requires you to be behind in tech(bad) and sending external trade routes(IIRC internal ones are better). Pericles gets +5% culture per city state they lead. That sounds better but also pretty small.

Cossacks sound a bit better than Hoplites, Acropolis sounds a slightly better than Lavra.

It's close, I suspect the snowball of free early tiles is the most powerful but Greece sounds a bit more interesting.

Going to go Russia. I imagine that we'll be able to use most of the strong policies with good planning anyway, so the extra policy slot will be one of the weaker ones. Free tiles sounds good.

Looking forwards to see what you make of this.

Me too! A new system to figure out is great, but I just don't feel any pressure to optimise stuff in SP anymore. I've been looking forward to trying civ6 MP pretty much since the game came out, it's a shame it's taken this long for my time to free up.

Lately my civ4 reports aren't as comprehensive, I figure it's the big picture that is most interesting since everyone is so familiar with the game. I might try to be a bit more detailed for this runthrough.

Oh man, Tsingy in the tundra, a ton of hills, triple adjacency sites, spoilt for choice here.

Hey Bacchus, great to have you on board! I'll get a chance to analyse things more closely later in the week.

The start does look excellent. SIP seemed the natural play. Plains hill plant+river+no wasted turns moving. Despite killing a forest I couldn't see any other choice competing.

Then I went builder first. IIRC people tend to go for a warrior/scout first in these games. I guess the question is the order, how many extra envoys do you gain from unit first vs the extra tile yields of builder first. I think you'd need to hit 2 extra envoys to be worth it, which sounds unlikely to me, so I went with the builder. If I had a chance I could have used rolling a few maps to check my intuition though.

I'm not particularly worried about early harassment, barbs or otherwise, and in any case Russia's free tiles gives some extra notice about such things.

The builder is good here, with three priority improvements -- wheat farm, pasture, tundra hill mine (did we get it in culture by the way?) We also quite protected from harassment by terrain, but it might also make expansion difficult. Food looks a bit tight and this might be a rare case where Feed the World is actually good, especially for the Tsingy cities.
