New SG - 1oom edition?

Another long time lurker here - I've had this game so long I originally installed it from 3.5" floppies
Found a copy of it about a year ago and started playing again.

Do you guys have the stomach for two newbs to this format on the team? If so add me to the bottom of the list!

Fantastic! You will fit perfectly between me and Ref. A group of four is pretty ideal, not that we will turn away others if they want to join! I still have my big box game with diskettes too. Ah the good old days! And welcome!

Thanks for the welcome Ianus! I found this forum a while back, lost the bookmark during a pc change, and found it again with difficulty due to the fact that searching kept leading to the Steam re-release!

Actually, it looks like we've got five - also a good number for an SG, I think - and if anyone else wants to join, they'll definitely be welcome too; if there were somehow "too many," we'd still make it work, for instance by splitting into teams or by "demoting" me to a purely advisory/lurkerish role (since my schedule's kind of iffy, AKA loony, anyway). In any case, all the action's in the OSG-34 thread now so do head on over there and check in! I'll be posting my first turn set report there shortly.

I have a question about the patch level. Is there an in-game way of seeing what level is running?

I'm asking because I think I'm running 1.40m but the splash screen still displays 1.3. I was able to d/l the .sav RefSteel posted on the game thread and open it with no problem.

Go to the Map screen. If the date is showing at the top of the Races list you are running the patched version. That’s the quickest way to check.

Just to add to what Ianus wrote: The main menu does always (still) display 1.3 when it's really running the 1.40m patch; kyrub wasn't able to modify that file. And don't worry about messing up the save in any case; the save formats for 1.3 and 1.40m are identical, so they're fully cross-compatible.

I knew the format was compatible, I wanted to make sure I wasn't playing by different 'rules'.

Is that only in 'm' or also in the other unofficial 1.4 revs?
