So basically it's a PBEM? Asynchronous would means playing out of order like in a PB.

More akin to a sequential Pitboss, which I'd definitely call asynchronous. Asynchronous just refers to not happening at the same time.

Just picked up the game yesterday, would be interested in another PBEM. I've only played for a few hours, but it's like 95% identical to the AW series, as best I can tell.

Is it just me or is the scoring system for the campaign very annoying? shakehead  I finished a mission with 14 kills and 0 losses, yet only got 1 of 3 stars and a "c" rating. Apparently the only thing that's important is the number of turns it took to finish the mission? duh

I can't say I am impressed by that decision.

Ah, that explains a lot. Kind of annoying, there's a bit of a luck element involved in some missions where you can end them more quickly if the AI gets overly aggressive with its CO, but often they'll hang out in the back and you'll have to plow through waves of defense to get to them.

Not that the Advance Wars system was much better, which penalized players for crossing some mysterious threshold of "too many units built".

That was only Days of Ruin--the technique score in the other three games actually wanted you to build as many units as possible, since you needed to lose 10% or less (20% in campaign) of your units (which wasn't a great system either, since it overly-encouraged joining and other tricks to get around the 50-unit cap--BTW that's been removed in Wargroove, right?)

I don't like that it's entirely speed though--IIRC the only AW mode to do that was the original's Advance Campaign, which was basically a puzzle mode since there is only one way to solve the maps in most cases (except that you couldn't see all the moves, since 75% of the maps were FOW).

I also just got this game, and if anyone else is interested in having a game going, I'd be up for that.

I'm lurking with interest, but still waiting for the GOG release (and hoping that it doesn't have crippled multiplayer).

Just wanted to say sorry that this map isn't balanced for first-turn advantage. Some of the other maps I'd played were balanced for it, so I just assumed this one was until we got going.
