Balanced might be fine. Definitely no big and small. Several us played a heavy naval game recently and we would not prefer to repeat that.

I've got a map, and it's up for review, generated using Tilted Axis using the massive continents setting. Generate a fe maps using that to see what it brings up. Hint: It's a pangaea map.
Thank you.

I tried out tilted axis and have gotten some absolutely absurd maps (one was a thin continent that wrapped around the whole map with a thin coast and lots of jungle in the middle). A couple were ok though, and didn't have the ridiculous resource-less plains and deserts that pangea tends to give.
That's why you have some fool like myself check them out, and you don't just play the first map that gets generated. Takes me roughly 15 seconds to generate a map, look at it, and start generating a new one. I save the candidates that have decent outlines and space between players, and then when I've got a half dozen, I look at them all in closer detail to see if anyone is screwed over.

For posterity (and because it's necessary to understand the term reasonable when players use it to define start quality)... DZ's start was IMO playable, and it was possible to win from that position. Likely? No. Easy? Fuck no. Possible? Yes, if things "go the players way". To put it bluntly: skip Henge and settle a little wider for a better economic base (ie towards El Pinde Norte, that rectangular block of land connected to Commopins area by the peak might have helped. There has to be some form of territorial annexation etc. I will state, publicly and for the record: You have chosen to play Base BtS. It has been a very long time since I played that. My memory about how broken some of the points are will and does affect my understanding and judgement. You will not all have the same chance to win. You will have meaningful decisions to make. Take enough of the "Right" choices, and you just might walk away with a win. Or you might not, I don't know. I'm a lurker, not God. This map is "Fair", for a random map. Some of you will have better surrounding areas, some of you will have worse. Some more space, some less. None of you are on one tile islands, or isolated from contact with other players. You will not all have the same number of neighbours. That is the consequence of playing a random map. What I hope you have, in this game and future ones, is challenge and enjoyment. I am awaiting feedback from lurkers, I will have a few minor changes to make (strategic resource balancing is expecting) and then the game will be ready tomorrow. It feels nice to have another player advocating for my start in PB41, so thanks, Gav. But I do have to concur with Krill on my approach to that game. I stand by the sacrifices I made to get results I wanted, but in hindsight neither Stonehenge nor the Colossus do much for you when you don't support them with a good amount of cities. I'll save any other thoughts for the post-post mortem I'm finally getting around to in that subforum And I do enjoy all the games I play here, immensely. Looking forward to this one as well, so thanks for putting in the time.
So... ETA on the map? I am aware we are not really starting until after Easter but I am anxious to see my start
The map is done but lurker checkers are slacking... scratch that, I'll send it to Rham to host. Not sure of the process beyond that.
