[LURKERS] Civ 6 PBEM 15: May the Odds be Ever In Your Favor

He originally intended to wait for Early Empire, which you can get away with in single player but is way too slow for multiplayer. 6 pop takes a long time with only one city! Thankfully pindicator's settle seems to have shaken him out of that. I really want to see Jester do well in one of these games.

Jester nooooooooo...

Woden is going to love that +5 ToA to go with all three of the cities Jester will have settled by then.

Does Jester have any iron near his capital? Its hard to tell from Archduke's map post, and I am not sure what has been changed.

Jester's situation is not hopeless. He has a military and is at least researching bronze working, plus his second city will be situated for a defense. That city has plenty of production for military or even walls, which have been continually strengthened these past few patches. He will need on-par units to defend though. Best case scenario right now is that he pushes his military advantage for the next few turns to bully Woden a bit and secure more land. Jester does not have to attack, he just has park his military north of the river to keep Woden bottled up in the south. Jester would then fill in the rest with his own settlers. To be fair, Jester is not sure what the map looks or where other players are. Hopefully he scouts Woden's land soon, and realizes Woden only has one way to go: North. He really ought to declare war too, to prevent Persia from gaining its surprise war bonus and maybe kill the Persian scout.

ToA is an especially bad choice this early. Amenities will not help Jester's small cities much, nor does he have enough cities that he should worry about running low. His capital should pump out settlers right now so housing should also not be a concern. Plus he has 3x3 food tiles and the rest are all 2 food tiles so he does not need the +4 food. He is going to get so little from the ToA for such a high cost, its honestly sort of frustrating.

I want Jester to do well, but this might quickly turn into a game of Suboptimal and Pin trying to beat down a double sized Woden.

See Woden's latest post. If Woden's strategy is to take out CFCJF he wins. If not Woden's inevitable attack stalls there's enough time for other players to get access to CFCJF.

Yep, Woden is building. My prediction was wrong but you cannot be right all the time. smile

So Jester is delaying the settler again until Magnus is promoted, in the city where he built the TOA and has plenty of food surplus banghead .  This game is an example of why the perfect is the enemy of the good.

On the bright side, Suboptimal seems to have caught on to the way the winds are blowing.  He is aware that it looks like Woden might kill Jester and then it will be a 2v1 unless Pin tries to kill Suboptimal to make it a 1v1.

The interesting thing will be to see if Woden can bring off an early war. He's always had a bad habit of - well, if not full-blown McClellanism at least a bit of Rosecransism. He likes to build up until everything is just so, and continually delays to prepare more when he should attack.

Why does Jester think burning a pop point with a settler out of Istanbul is a problem, but doing the same thing out of Erdine is fine? Am I understanding him correctly?

Sorry Jester, I'm sure this hasn't been a fun thread to read. Please, next time, get settlers out faster.
