PB45 Tech Thread

Here is the way I see it:

4.0.8.5 and 4.0.9.2 mod versions worked fine, and these integrated the server modifications needed to host on the Zulan server.

I've changed some XML in 4.1.0.9, and XML doesn't cause these hosting issues (or any hosting issues, if it's an XML problem that game doesn't even load normally, or at least throws errors during loading).

Charriu has changed some parts of the DLL and recompiled it. Ramk and/or Zulan may have made changes to the server, or the changes that require alterations to the mod that I'm not aware of. I have no idea why the changes that Charriu made would have any issues with hosting a game, and we know the mod loads and plays SP games fine, so any issues should come from the interactions between those changes Charriu made and the modifications needed to host the game on that server.

I see three options for hosting this game:
  • I can take the XML changes, which is everything except map trading, city trading, resource modifiers affecting wonders and circumnavigation, dump them onto the 4.0.8.5 mod, and see if that works (note: I have done this and it loads fine). I can't see any reason this would not work for hosting, although I could just mod out circumnavigation (or just add +1 to all naval unit movement), and remove all resource modifiers from wonders, and mod out map trading, and treat this is a one off mod to get the game going. Afterwards I'll work with everyone else to get the mod hostable again.

  • We wait for Charriu and Zulan and Ramk to get the current mod version working. This has no known end date.

  • Host the game somewhere else.

This isn't my game, but I can get you a one off mod done tomorrow.

As an aside, this is going to be an issue that can crop up at any point if we don't have our own hosting provider, or we use a host that requires a mod to play a game. I remain grateful to Zulan and Ramk for agreeing to host our games, but it would be negligent of me to point out this out.

It should be clear from Krill's last point, but his first point, about dumping down the mod, will also need the support from Zulan and/or Ramk to start the game.

I favor the first option. The ban on city and map trading can be enforced out-of-game like it usually is, and we want resource modifiers to affect wonder production like normal anyway, so the only gameplay deviation from what we expected will be to circumnavigation. That is a shame, since I like the feature of circumnavigation being open to all, but I don’t like it enough to hold up the game an unknown amount of additional time just for that.

If I can do anything to help that doesn’t involve coding, which I can’t do, then let me know. I’m sorry that all of this extra setup work is being done by people who won’t even get to play in the game.

I need to change what I said.

I can only know that it loads the game client fine, but the pitboss server is just breaking everytime.

I'm working with boak to get their game going on their server. I think it works there, but that the changes needed to host on Zulans server are what is breaking the pitboss host. The tl:Dr is I think we need a different host or we need Ramk and Zulan to talk an it how to ge the mod working.

Hello guys, I'm sorry that I've delayed your PB-game due personal reasons. shakehead
To keep a short story even shorter: I'm back and managed the server start, now.

Charriu was diligent and updated the mod in the last weeks. I added [url=my bugfixes onto the new version 4.1.0.10.
A Zip of this merge can be downloaded here.

With this mod you can join into the game http://civ.zulan.net/pbspy/game/80/
I've set the timer of the first round on 200h. I hope this helps you to re-activate(?!) all players.

Maybe the problem was related with some of my changes in PbWizard.py. I reverted something today, but I do not know if your version already contains the problematic code.
Note that the PBServer (not the clients!) side-load some python files. PbWizard.py is placed outside of the mod folder, but 'in' the Altroot folder, (PBStats/PBs/Python/v8/PbWizard.py).

Thanks so much Ramk, sorry about all the impatient commenting. Looking forward to starting the game soon!
