I could see that if they had a bunch of temples and monasteries already up, but they don't really. The effects of the AP for them don't really kick in until they invest in religious buildings anyway.

Have they said anything about Sankore or Spiral Minaret? (of course, the last one in a MP game is pretty unlikely). Always thought that the payoff from just one of those was pretty meh for non-Spiritual civs.

They're going to be only 1 tech away from Statue of Liberty, which would be absolutely huge for them.

That is still some time away. They can easily hand-build that when the time comes, just 750 vs 400(?) for the AP. With an engineer they still have to finish it manually.

I like using engineers for wonders with no resource multipliers.

Well now that I've basically self-destructed and knocked myself out of contention (not that I was likely to beat Spulla but I could hope) I'm going to whip my civ into the ground getting jannissaries, Knights and Catapults and I'm going to knock Slaze out. Hopefully I can secure a new NAP with India when that is done, I'll repay Mali for the betrayal of CoW and with a ton of land maybe I'll be able to get back to tech parity. Unlikely but who knows.

Either he plays for it to work out, or he goes down in flames. I don't see the objection.

He has to whip now else he gets steamrolled by slaze. And I doubt slaze would sign any peacetreaty with athlete after the big backstab. So Ottomans and Incas are now killing their huge armies making it easy for India to take all of Ottoman's cities rebuild and then take out Incas which will be 1-1.5 areas behind in tech.

If Athlete whips out a huge tech equivalent army made out of his UU at the cost of crashing his economy into the ground then I can definitely see India granting a NAP extension. Why wouldn't they? Give him the NAP, and tech to a level where his troops are obsolete. Then bring the hammer down. It relies on Athlete being able to keep his army mostly intact... but he'd be relying on that anyway if India decides to attack early.
