Fine with me of course. But the topics are slightly different. Plako is talking about a Great Merchant vs Great Scientist, not regular specialists. There is some common ground, but my article doesn't directly answer his situation.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the mobile forces need to be on the white square to be able to attack the city the following turn.
Since Sullla wrote that Kathelete can see the workers there (is that true ?), how did he expect Kathelete not to see his cuirassiers latter ?
And worst of it, it will be 1t before war declaration !!!
To me, to avoid the risk of a cheesy gift, Sullla is going to give a 1t warning without realising it
(which could and up in gifting any city to start with, including the main lands that could be reach in 1t)

You are right, but Sulla has it right too:
Sullla Wrote:Next turn, I can road the tile in white with our Fast Workers. That becomes the new staging tile
Sullla also knows that the attack will be seen ahead of time. He has not considered the possibility of a cheesy gift though.

I thought with engineering you get 3 moves on roads? That would mean that the 2-movers could stay where they are if the three indicated tiles are roaded and then strike on turn 1?
Have I got this wrong?

You get 3 moves on roads, but that uses up one movement point. You're thinking as if you get 3 moves on roads and then two single moves.
From the white tile, the horses can move SE on road, SE on road, SW into enemy territory, and have 1/3 movement point remaining to attack.
From the current tile, they would move NE on road, SE on road, SE on road, SW into enemy territory -- oops no movement remaining to attack.

The 'funny' thing is that he is doing all this attack from east to avoid a cheesy gift during war.
But giving 1t warning should give Kathelete an opportunity to whip a janissary everywhere in his 'endangered' cities.
And I am not sure that the landing forces (3 cuirassiers+1musket,) will then be enough for the west island if there is 2 janissaries + 1lg (+1 janissary every other turn)
His 'chance' might be that Kathlete seems to be very reluctant to whip even when going to lose cities (see how he didn't do it to save a city vs slaze hoping to hold with knight+lg vs stack of HA, while a whipped janiussary surely would have saved the city)

Yeah I wondered about the same thing at the time, but I didn't want to rub Athlete's nose in it by questioning him.
But is the staging tile visible to Athlete? It is visible to Nakor's galley so maybe it doesn't matter much.
I have to run.

The problem is that unless Athelte has already put hammers into a Janissary in the cities, he's not going to have the pop to whip them, especially not with the whipping from scratch bonus. Athlete's border cities on the mainland are size 2, 2, 5, and 3 and the one on the central island is size 2. So unless he already has over 50 hammers in the size 2 and 3 cities or 20 hammers in the size 5 city in the Jan, there is no way he could whip them in one turn (Jan's cost 80 hammers just for reference).
