"RB1" report, game vs Superdeath on Mini-Nostalgia!
Pre-game:
We rolled for towns. Superdeath got Necro, I got Castle. I went with Valeska as the hero because she comes with Archers and has Archer specialty.
My immediate surroundings. I got 5 heroes out on 111, good start. They are scouting and collecting resources.
Lizard Warriors were guarding the zone entry to an AI. Rolled low (only 20) so I killed them without any major losses.
Walking into his zone, I found his main with Wyverns on 112. Fortress can do that.
It was a bloody fight, but I walked out with 20 Marksmen remaining.
I captured the empty town on 113 and then just about reached their last hero to eliminate Teal! An excellent start.
Now I have two zones to farm.
Disaster strikes on 116! Purple attacks my main town and my troops are too far to reach it in time.
I scramble together what I can to defend and I give it a go.
Not the most harmonious army. I built a Citadel on the turn before, hoping that it will deal the damage. I also have magic arrows to rain down upon them.
They never made it past the walls. I only lost harpies because I forgot it's their upgraded version that can't be counterattacked.
Subterranean gate was a no-go, guarded by ranged foes. As I found out later, this would lead to a treasure zone, each AI has one.
We did find Slow though, which is partly why my main is still around. She started heading back, but then backtracked to grab it. Mass Slow makes a huge difference in a fight.
Old friend is back with vengeance. This Underground area is just below my main town. My units? As far away as they could be.
Nothing a hero chain can't fix though. I do have to take the fight with an inexperienced hero. Too scared, I hunkered down in my town for another turn.
Oof, just short by one tile. Alt hero it is then.
We won. Well, he fled. The difference being that a fleeing hero can be re-bought, but all his units are dead now.
I'll have to thank the AI though, they cleared both Lizard Warrior stacks for me. This opened up the area to the other remaining AI.
Pink charged out at me, passing my main and forcing Fafner (who was the Hero who defended our main town earlier!) to flee.
I attacked with my main, Valeska, next turn. I might have underestimated my strenght a little bit.. It was not an "even fight". I won fairly easily.
I captured their empty town. They only had a scout left, which I killed next turn to eliminate pink.
Just one AI to go on my side. I sent Valeska underground and found them quickly. I took the fight.
Who do you think wins?
Answer: The guy with a Castle. Those towers decimated me, and despite leveling up Ballistics, I couldn't take down any of them with my catapult.
Biggest mistake of the game from me right here. At least my main fled and I can re-buy her, but all my units are wiped out. All my momentum is gone.
Time to regroup and recover.
After farming my zones and gathering troops, I come back and find their town only lightly defended. I take it.
And I'm 1 tile short from getting in and defending it!!
Instead I had to buy out what I could and create a mixed army who could hide behind the walls and do what was done to me before.
The AI was smart enough not to attack.
But it turns out they've captured a second town in the treasure zone. Now I'm kind of stuck at their town. I don't know where their main hero is.
I opt to wait for a round of reinforcements before heading out, both from my two Castles and from my new Necropolis to have real defenders there.
During all this, I had Fafner farm the Fortress zone. He got Earth Magic, which would mean he might become my main hero if Valeska doesn't get it soon. I continued leveling up Fafner.
After reinforcements arrived, Valeska started hunting down purple's heroes.
The AI made the mistake of spreading out his army, a common mistake by real newbie players.
It was easy to take them down one by one.
Finally tracked down their last hero and town at their treasure zone. Didn't have much left, bye bye purple!
And with that, I had all 3 AI zones secured. Next step is to get strong enough to get past the 50-99 stack of Behemoths guarding the area to Superdeath.
Few turns later though, Superdeath conceded. He'd been having trouble against the AI on his side. We'll give it another go next time now that we know how the map works.
Still I was happy I got to kill all the AI in time! There is much room for improvement though. Mostly chaining units more to farm my zones more efficiently.
You could tell I was behind because all the guards at the treasure zone were too strong for me to deal with.
