RB2 Jowy vs Superdeath on Mini-Nostalgia report
(Game is still on-going, we played for 3.5 hours and will return to this next time)
Superdeath wanted to pick towns this time. He chose Tower (with Solmyr) and I went for Rampart (with Kyrre).
Starting area. I already cleared two fights with Kyrre and her Wood Elf stack. Guards were much easier than last game. However, that is a stack of Angels guarding the way to Superdeath.
Layout was clear: One AI underground, the other two along the roads heading North and South.
Key building I found was a Homestead, allowing me to recruit more Wood Elves, which would be my main stack for a long time.
Next I went back to home town and upgraded them all to Grand Elves (they get double shot, very good).
I broke through to the North on 117 (Month 1, Week 1, Day 7). Sadly no first week town this time.
The reason to pick Kyrre was Logistics, which gives more movement. Here it comes super helpful: We can reach and capture the town on 121.
Since Red gets their turn before Tan (or anyone else for that matter), the AI did not have his week 2 units bought yet. This is why Red is the strongest color and usually you bid for it (and for town) before the game starts.
Additionally I bought week 2 units from my own town and chained them to Kyrre. This is called "red rushing".
Town captured. I can buy out the troops for a side hero.
Now, here's a small mistake. While here, I should have built the Magic University (allows you to pay to learn any school of magic) and bought Earth Magic for Kyrre. I ended up doing that later.
Kyrre also got Pathfinding, which increases her movement in rough terrain. It's a sweet combo. Map movement is very important.
Superdeath revealed that he already got his first Giant (level 7 unit for Tower), while I only just built my level 5 dwelling in my home town. He had a strategy in mind from the start and it seems to be working out for him.
The pic is from next turn when I checked out the Thieves Den and saw that was indeed the case.
Note that Tan was still alive. I would find their straggler hero a bit later, and could handle him with a side hero, but it did almost surprise me.
I went underground after the next AI. I found their town mostly empty. I found a green hero to the South and killed it with Kyrre. However..
From the fog another green hero attacked to get his town back. I spammed slow on the Vampires, but they got to my lone Centaur before the towers could kill them.
His celebration was cut short when Kyrre came back and took back the town next turn. That was on 131, and since we're Red, we took it before he could buy out the new units (you get a new batch of units every week).
Orange AI almost ninja'd my main town, I didn't pay attention when the turn rolled and AI movement was shown. I panic bought (had to trade for resources) a Castle and a stack of dwarves. Orange wisely ran away next turn.
Of course I went for Orange next. I first captured his town (which had a capitol, an expensive building you can only have 1 of that gives gold).
And then killed his main hero on the same turn. All three AI cleared on 137.
Now it was farming time. I had a side hero clearing the Conflux area in the North. I had a few heroes digging for the Holy Grail. I spotted the area where it was, but didn't know the exact location. By the end of this session, I hadn't dug it up yet.
Kyrre checked out one of the treasure zones.
But I did not have the cojones to fight these bastards. Maybe if I had Expert Earth Magic for Mass Slow, but I was not there yet.
I took the town, then chose a new goal.
Meanwhile the side hero ran into Ayssids, level 4 units from Cove. They were not as easy as I expected and I took heavy losses.
From the Prison they guarded, I rescued a level 10 hero. Not really the best skills, but it's probably good to have a back-up.
Kyrre's new objective was to clear three Wolf Raider Thickets I had near my home town. The invisible guards here turned out to be Power Liches. Could have been worse.
Cleared them out with auto combat. As rewards I got a total of 20 Cyclops (level 6 ranged units). That strengthens me up nicely.
I considered clearing the 20-49 Angels guarding the way to Superdeath. But I still think I'm too weak, so I'm heading North to clear another AI treasure zone.
This is about where we ended for the night.
