Maybe the other players have a lot more courthouses? I dunno.

Only Jowy and Mr. Cairo have CoL, and Cairo only a couple turns ago.

Without making too many spoilers, the land bridge to your west was artificial, so the lack of resources is my blame - however I think you'd have been really cramped for expansion. The gems were also my addition, I beefed up the area near your capital significantly.

Just want to stress that I don't want you to take any of my griping about the map personally.
The quality of land is fine on the whole, the rest of is just quibbles. Stuff there being no food to the west or not having a flood plains river delta like all of my neighbors (poor Gira didn't get that either) aren't going to impact the game. The lack of early happiness I overcame. My biggest criticism of the map is still superdeath not having any other option than to go through me which led us to this state of constant war.
But I'm really throwing stuff out because I am trying to grasp why I have to pay 50% more for my empire than my rivals. Inflation is just a big black box for me, especially since I don't know how much my rivals are paying for it. City maintenance could be part of it? Which led me to think about why I expanded the way I did and if there was any reason to push west more for a more centralized capital. Which led me to the map quibbles. I am really amazed at how fast my city maintenance has climbed over the last 40 turns. I have the old screenshots of F2 screens before, and we went from paying 57gpt in city maintenance with 12 cities on turn 100 to paying 146gpt for 18 cities on turn 145. Those 6 cities didn't cost 100gpt by themselves, this is the additional maintenance costs as cities have grown. It costs so much to grow population that I haven't been able to raise the slider for growing my cities onto more cottages! There isn't some kind of feedback loop where inflation influences these other kinds of expenses as well, is there? My civic costs are almost 90gpt now, which would be almost half the total costs for Mjmd or Mr. Cairo.
Hopefully other people will post their F2 screens on t150. I'd love to be able to compare these after the game.

Inflation is a multiplier on the rest of your maintenance. So yeah, if your city maintenance is higher then the inflation value associated with that will be higher. That's why I very much didn't like the idea of messing with the inflation value, it's hard to understand exactly its impact.

Flipside, your 20% is likely worth thrice as much than 45 turns ago now as well Understand your frustration though.

I think it'd be fine to put something in tech thread along the lines of "for purposes of comparison and balancing CtH in its first game, could fellow players try to post in their spoiler thread a T-150 screenshot of their f2 screens and demos?"

I'll ask but I think it's only going to is tell me after the fact what was going on.

He was able to burn the city and then retreated his stack.
Silver lining: break even is now almost 30%. Yay?
All units, all the time, until he is gone.
I know his stack is 25 units right now (14 elephants, 1 axe, 6 catapults, and 4 CKN if I recall). Right now mine is at 35 units. I want to invade with 70 so that his collateral won't do more than scratch. The quality won't matter so much as quantity, so probably will be building a lot more spears too. Also, you're going to see a lot of longbows in this stack because they're the best 6 strength unit i can make right now. I wish I was joking.
Wealth Builds would have only sped Guilds up by 1 turn at this point. Better to get all that production in.

Whipped 7 times last turn. 4 more times this turn.
Quantity > Quality.
Here's the current numbers. Everything circled is in the invasion force.
That's 26 slow movers, 11 catapults, 15 numids, and I've still got 4 turns until we get to the knights. Though I'm pre-building Numids in many locations right now.

18 cities and no courthouses?
No wonder your costs have stayed so high.
