So what does everything think of Commodore gifting units to AT? I was under the impression this hadn't been done for a while by default? Or is it fine?

Good question. It probably depends on whether we're actually defining diplomacy as "AI Diplomacy" or "in-game diplomacy" - and the latter would include gifting units, since the AI never gives units away.

If tech trading is off unit gifting should be off too IMO so that defender can't get more up to date units, for example.

I tried to find the normal "hey here is the settings/rules for the game!" but couldnt... So i dont see anything wrong with it so long as EVERYONE knows that stuff is ok. Although i THINK that everyone kinda has been noticing that stuff like that is ok in this pb? Alot of "hey imma send this city in a trade offer" kinda stuff already, so its only a small leap to " im going to gift this neighbor some pikes to defend!"
"Superdeath seems to have acquired a rep for aggression somehow. [Image: noidea.gif] In this game that's going to help us because he's going to go to the negotiating table with twitchy eyes and slightly too wide a grin and terrify the neighbors into favorable border agreements, one-sided tech deals and staggered NAPs."

At least in older pitbosses there was always a mention of no city/unit gifting if that was the case. So unless there is no mention in the settings I think it everyone will just roll with it. It can also be quite fun, I remember us gifting some commando units to Commodore in PB13 as we were fighting the same enemy. On the other hand, I can very well see why people would like to avoid the potential mess from gifting cities or units.. So most importantly, this should always be clarified as part of the settings discussion..

I think gifting units is OK as long as it is not strictly forbidden and it is not kingmaking. Commodore is furthering his own ends and increasing his odds of victory (at least with good rationale in doing so) with the gift in this case so I don't see a problem.

At least if no players ( Scooter ) complain there's no need for us to do anything. Just a preference of mine to ban unit gifts

I thought unit gifting was off on RB unless stated otherwise, so it would be nice to actually clear this up for the future! lol

My line of thinking was that people just stopped bringing it up because it was assumed off.
