[SPOILER] Azure Moon

I attacked, this is what he had. I suicided the 6 unpromoted catapults for collateral. This time they all got collateral vs 6 units, last time those numbers were all over. Can someone explain this mechanic? Ty ty.

Anyway back to the attack. I cleared out his entire stack, only losing 1 Knight. I think it was worth it to sacrifice the cats, Knights especially needed the increased odds.

My losses: 6 cats, 1 knight
His losses: 6 longbows, 1 xbow, 5 pikes, 3 axes, 3 spears, 6 archers, 2 chariots

I can move to his territory next turn with 3-move roads. Might be worth upgrading the city raider maces to Rifles even if that leaves them a turn behind.

AT finally accepted OB. I'm gonna go check out Cairo's stack. AT's defenses are really weak, I could probably take a few cities, but I don't want to backstab him since he didn't backstab me.

Maybe I send off some Rifles to slow down Cairo instead hammer

The collateral is randomly assigned to units in the defending stack. Units that are immune or are already at or below the max damage threshold can be targeted but do not take damage.

It turns out AT is doing well on his own. Here are his and Cairo's stacks:

I don't think Cairo can make progress unless he's got more in the fog.

I had enough money to upgrade every unit in my stack to Rifles, so I took one turn to wait for them and heal up. Moving forward next turn.

Planning to ferry over reinforcement Rifles to side cities if Charriu has no Caravels in the South.

Could have been #1 but Mjmd is also building up forces. Good, I think, as long as they are directed West.

Rifle count is at 30. Easing up on non-production cities for the time being.

Cairo is retreating from AT's lands. Don't have to worry about Cairo knocking on our door soon.

Mjmd sent fish for fish deal. I don't speak RB code language so I accepted. Maybe he's planning to attack Pindicator and wants me to hold off. I will.

I'm very happy that city is not on a hill. We can fork, but probs just going for the capital and then cleaning up the rest after. EDIT: Wait, it is on a hill, it's just hidden by the city. Mouseover text says Hills. Fk.

I chose to go for Cannons next to support my Rifles.

Mouseover is on DiplomatKobolds. I thought about capturing it first. It's not on a hill so I get odds before even bombarding. It would be easy.

Thing is, those units can just abandon it and go inside AquaticGhouls. It's better for me if they stay over there while I take down the capital.

I've been bombarding AquaticGhouls and healing up our units. They are mostly full now. Charriu has 7 catapults he can throw at us to slow us down a little more.

I sent some late reinforcements over by galley to capture MerchantTrolls, but two have died. The promoted ones get around 80% odds, unpromoted 57%.

I upgraded some old maces and sent them to pressure the two northern cities. One we cannot see, but it's the one AT captured before.

Mjmd went after OH and Cairo can't advance against AT. It's depressing to not get odds against Longbows right off with freaking Rifles, but at least geopolitically everything is going great as long as one of OH or Mjmd doesn't roll over the other.

About those good news? Well, OH and Mjmd just made peace.

Either Mjmd is already too weak to fight him, or he forced peace so he can attack Charriu without worrying about the other front.

We can't afford to take it slow, so it's all or nothing time!  hammer

This is what we start with. Charriu didn't throw his cats or move his defenders, and my guys are healthy apart from 2 units, so this is a good time to go for it.

I wasn't sure whether to bombard or collateral. I went with collateral. It's not like I'll have time to bombard in the future.

In the end this is what's left standing. I would have needed to win almost every fight to take the city, so that wasn't happening. Now we just hope we made enough progress here.

I have 20 rifles and 10 knights remaining in the main stack.

He can pull reinforcements from the other city, sadly. I should have cut the road. I had that idea and even moved north with a few units, but then I backed out thinking I can't waste the rifles.

I'm pulling the coast city attackers out. That didn't work out since I lost two and the last two were too badly damaged, and Charriu had 2 full HP longbows there this turn.

I'm also upgrading and pulling whatever else I can, and doing another round of whips. Might move the northern stack through his lands to reinforce too, it's actually faster than if they went around.

I'm taking a tech detour to Compass/Optics for 1.5k beakers total (for reference Chemistry+Steel is 6.9k). Then I can cover my galleys from Charriu's Caravels and drop in reinforcements faster.

Need to move fast here now with the attack fully committed. I can board galleys, move them, then next turn move and drop right next to Charriu's capital. Unless he blocks it. We might actually want a caravel on standby there too.

I have a canal set up on the land bridge that can support it next to Mateus, so I can reinforce navy from the outer coast too.

We'll see what we can do next turn. We'll have promos and we'll heal some from turn passing (+6 Medic promos). If I was Charriu I'd throw the cats at us and reinforce the capital.

I don't know if we'll have enough but safe play won't win this. Well, even if the risky play works out, don't think we're winning even then, but at least we'll be closer  lol

Here's what he had start of this turn. He did send 8 catapults at our stack, but barely did any collateral.

I gave up. I did send the last knight to raze DiplomatKobolds.

I have 10 rifles 1 knight left.

He has 1 mace, 1 xbow, 2 longbows, 8 pikes, 4 spears, 1 archer, 1 HA.

I have reinforcements on the way but he will be whipping more 20+ str Longbows. Rifle total is at 32. We are up to 2.2x his power, but I consider this a failure. Just needed a little bit more to break the capital, then everything falls.

Should have just took my time. I tried to make something happen out of desperation, knowing it probably wouldn't work.

What now? It's game over for me, but let's keep rolling with the war to gain more experience.

"Superdeath seems to have acquired a rep for aggression somehow. [Image: noidea.gif] In this game that's going to help us because he's going to go to the negotiating table with twitchy eyes and slightly too wide a grin and terrify the neighbors into favorable border agreements, one-sided tech deals and staggered NAPs."

Enjoy the thread! Should be some fun commentary about your wars in there.

And at the end I might have been wishing for your loss after you canceled our OB  mischief
