How difficult the setup is A can not answer.
Mac is problematic since it just doesn't support 64bit anymore. You have to use some software called parallels, I think it may offer some form of 32 bit support.

What computer do you have, that it cannot run Civ 4? It's so old now and even back then it ran on a lot of machines?
I have the opposite problem. I have a MacBook that is updated to the latest OS, which is 64 bit only. And Civ 4 was never updated to be a 64 bit program, so it just won’t run.
I would ask the internet if the Steam version can run on Catalina. If you actually want to play Civ4, anyway.

It can't. I've looked into it myself.

I'll play if there is a spot. I know nothing about the fancy new mod though, did not read RB for months.

Looks like you're in the last spot, welcome.
Close to Home, as you might expect from the name, is a balance mod trying to hew as near to BtS as possible. Except screw Inca.

Could it be that Commodore has some Incan ancestry.
But yeah like Commodore already said. Aim is staying close to BtS. Don't worry about diving into the changelog right away. A new version will be up in the next days.
