[SPOILERS - El Grillo PB54] Staying home and stargazing

Hey I also wanted to inform you about a tiny UI bug that only affects you. When you hover over a foreign trade route in your city screen it will still show the domestic bonus and a wrong number in the hover itself. Don't worry all the numbers in the back and the trade route section are still correct. It's only a UI bug which I fixed in future versions.

T72:

Mjmd moved into a threatening position and I checked that he had the second half of the turn, which forced me to deploy like this and burn a Worker turn to prevent him from getting a shot at the city. I offered him a fish-for-clams trade to indicate not wanting to fight, but if he wanted to cause a bother he could kill my Warrior and pillage the rice, and depending on his rolls I might not even be able to counterattack with my fresh Archer. Please Mjmd, let's be friends and then split superdeath together when the time is right.

On the other hand, Ruff landed an unescorted Settler in a logical place for him to settle, with his Galley 1W. If he were to found like this I'd have a shot at razing the city, but as I've said before I'd rather it not come to that. I'll be happy for him to grow this nice flatland city while I settle corn/fish/horse and hopefully not provoke a military build-up. I hope he finds that an acceptable compromise for now.

I saw Mjmd had played and I didn't get a PM announcing a wardec or turn-split so I felt optimistic that he had decided to leave me alone and logged in to check his and Ruff's movements. To my disappointment, he actually did attack and just didn't tell me frown

Well, at least the Warrior did some damage and he didn't pillage the rice, so I'll send him white peace next turn when my Archer finishes. I didn't move any units or change any tile assignments per the turn-split.

As for Ruff, he did have a defender, and he did settle the expected location, and encouragingly he didn't war/peace me so I'm still getting value from our trade routes. Hopefully he doesn't have another Settler ready for an immediate return trip.

PMs notifying of turn splits are generally only done when necessary due to whatever metagame reason. Communication between players should be kept to a minimum.

Huh, I thought it was the opposite from the etiquette thread, and I sent/received a PM for every war that occurred in PB51. I thought the intent of the courtesy PM was to reduce instances where a player logged in when it wasn't their part of the turn to avoid unintentional out-of-sequence moves.

And on the subject of sequencing, I realize I would've been within my rights if I intentionally delayed playing the turn until after Mjmd to force him to wait an additional turn before declaring war (since he would be double-moving me on T71-72 if he attacked this turn), but I decided to just keep the game moving. Seems like a bad precedent to start playing timer subgames over the possibility of losing 15h and a Worker turn.

I checked that thread and I don't see anything.

Then it must've come up in the setup thread or as advice from a lurker. Regardless, I don't see what harm there is in communicating that a turn-split exists and which side you're both on. In the case of a peacetime turn-split, what's the alternative?

Players are supposed to be smart enough to recognize when there is a split. I'm not saying you can't send the PM, but the general rule of minimum communication is a good one.

That wouldn't work in the case of a surprise attack from the fog. In the case at hand too where there is doubt whether one player will attack it forces the defender into a just-in-case turn split. That turn split that might be unnecessary or even violated by the would-be aggressor if they in fact didn't declare war.
