Yeah I tried that. But the advanced start base points box is greyed out and cannot be changed. And then if I select the checkbox without modifying the base points, it just ignores it and goes into the normal start. scooter tried this in 53 as well and encountered the same problem. And I don't understand how you guys got around it later.

I thought this was how it worked, but I just tested this, and it didn't work for me. I started a new game as custom scenario, picked a WBSave I have, and ticked Advanced Start, and it just skipped that part. We may have to have a pretty lightly edited map to make this work? Not quite sure.

Quick note on play order based on past experience with Civ 6 PBEM ... Pindicator gets home from work right as I am getting ready for bed. With Pindicator > Cornflakes order we regularly had 8+ hour gap and almost never double turns. That being said, the overall turn order proposed is likely the best for locating everyone into consistent 1T/day windows. All this to say let Gavagai pick whether long-term he would like to play in the gap before me, or after.

And the included changes are here: Changes
Just like before no gameplay changes, only fixes.
Also forget about all the stuff I wrote about city founding radius it's not included. At this point in the game I don't want to introduce any more gameplay changes.
I might be dumb, but can you spell out the steps explicitly on how to open a scenario with this mod running and have the advanced start trigger? I tried starting a custom scenario game, and it still skips that part. I'm trying to figure out how to do it locally.
Update: I figured out how to do this. It requires editing the WBSave directly to strip out a bunch of the pre-defined settings.
One note. When Monarch difficulty is set, you have to set the Advanced Start points to 556 in order to actually get 500. Difficulty has an impact on Advanced Start points.
Charriu implemented something in CtH that allowed Advanced Start. At the time I was able to make it work. Now I don't remember how and can't get it to work even on that CtH version

Wow, this getting more complex than expected. I changed my view and this is may worth to add into Charrius mapmacking thread
I checked it with Civ4:BTS and RtR_5.1.1.1: In both variants I can open some scenario files and can edit the advanced start points (Europe.CivBeyondSwordWBSave) and can not edit the value (Earth.CivBeyondSwordWBSave)
(I didn't found the difference in both files… No NumAdvanedStartPoints-entry in both files)
Nevertheless I think you can still add this line between "BeginGame/EndGame" into your WBSave file:
NumAdvancedStartPoints=510
This should enable the option (Hopefully I'm right this time…)

There may be more water tiles than you might have been expecting. It is not possible to have so few land tiles and still have room for all the advanced starts without adding a good number of water tiles as well.

I think from PB53 testing that the advanced start area automatically shrinks and distorts to account for player proximity. Unfortunately I still didn’t remember or figure out how to start a custom scenario with advanced start for further testing.
