Are you really researching Currency? Your optimism is inspiring, sir.

It'd be neat if I could survive another 42 turns and outlive my PB88 civ. rolf

Look, man, I don't know how they play civ4 where you're from, but where I come from, we build settlers and research Currency.

Monarchy might better?

Opened the turn up to an interesting diplo offer.

Cairo and Miguelito are at war. I don't know how real this war is, but you can see Miguelito's fleet chasing down a Caironian galley. I thought about this offer. Two luxuries are great. (Pseudo-edit: this is only one lux. I think I'm getting ivory from Miguelito.) On the other hand, Miguelito has been very helpful. He supplied the horse, with which I was able to burn a Scooter city. He's now supplying me with copper, which will be crucial if my own metals get pillaged again. So, Miguelito has been a very useful ally. (I'm not fooling myself. If he had a chance to eat me, he would.) Cairo by contrast took my shiny island city. So, no. I wish Cairo no special harm, but I need to keep Miguelito happy.  alright

Turns out Currency was too optimistic even for me. wink Monarchy probably would be better, but I'm heading to Machinery for Crossbows. We'll see if I live to use them.

Mack, of course, was right, and I'm an idiot. I have happy problems at the cap and a big garrison. Of course I should be going for Monarchy.  banghead

Cairo was able to safely disembark his units, although I think there was a trick he could have used to save his galley:

Cairo moved the galley into my cap, and moved his swordsmen off it. Rusten then killed the galley in the harbor with a spear. Am I right in thinking that Cairo could have saved the galley by keeping the swords in the city? Perhaps Cairo was worried Rusten had Cataphracts onboard.

I've founded my sixth city (or my third city twice, depending). I've had to move units out of the capital in case Cairo wants to spite me for not closing borders with Miguelito. I don't think he's a spiteful guy, but I'd rather be safe.

The swordsman would have had great odds against cataphracts off the boats, sure.

Good point. Who knows, then. Cairo and Miguelito made peace, but Miguelito's got plenty more war in his future.

It looks like Miguelito was pretty much finished eating Elkad when Mjmd declared, for safety or glory, who knows. Am I going to outlive yet another player? mischief

It's like every RTS game ever made, where you start off commanding the sole surviving platoon in the last city of the final territory, and have to gradually claw your way to victory.
