Jowy Wrote:This is a bit outdated question, but was there some kind of a leak back when the CoW invasion was on? I was reading the Spullla thread and it stroke me as odd how Speaker was so sure that Whosit was sending praets their way. I'm too lazy to find the discussion about that in the lurker thread, which I'm sure you already had, so please someone update me on that :P

All right. smile

Speaker and Sullla sniffed it out themselves based on a number of circumstances, here's Speaker's explanation:

Whosit has sent 4 Galleys, which must mean 8 Praetorians, so my fears have proven correct. Here are the reasons I suspected him of sending them:

1) Complete lack of diplomatic contact
2) Only saw a couple Praetorians in his land, having explored most of his cities, and his only contested border.
3) Logical sense. This is his chance to truly cripple us.
4) Presence of a coastal on the inland sea.
5) Only logical explanation about why Nakor is involved--fear of Whosit's reprisal if he doesn't attack us.

Just like their original attack on Chancellorsville, the timing within a couple turn window, is putrid for us. 2 more turns and we'd have cleared out 1 or both of the stacks in our land, and would be able to shift all our troops over there to defend. 4 more turns and we'd even have spare catapults to whack those Praets when they disembarck.

The good news is that Nakor has left a Chariot exposed, and as long as we can kill 1 more unit, we will get a Great General. With 2 General Axes behind 50% walls, I feel pretty confident we can defend Fredericksburg, as long as we don't lose some wacky battles. I am crossing my fingers that those are just shock Praetorians, and not Shock + City Raider or City Raider I and II.

I have little fear of Chancellorsville falling to Dantski's little stack there, and we'll have plenty of troops to defend Antietam as well.

However, there were also some egregious spoilers posted, which were edited out quickly, of course. See post 590 in this thread for a quote of one of those spoilers:

I have to run.

Thank you novice. I expected any possible spoilers to be like small slip ups, but Dr Nomadic's post is just straight out telling them that they're going to be dogpiled 5vs1 and Rome is involved! Seriously, what the hell was he thinking?

I think everyone in this thread has been asking that question about every post by Dr Nomadic!
"You want to take my city of Troll%ng? Go ahead and try."

I remember too there was a time when Sullla mentioned that Speaker suspected a Rome attack was coming and that Sullla thought he was just being paranoid... I don't have time to dig up the post I'm thinking of though.

in spullla's defence, Iirc sullla banned him from his thread and put him on his ignore list for a period telling to stop being an idiot and read the posting rules.

That wasn't the reason. The reason was that Dr. Nomadic was being semi-stalkerish(posting various personal things about Sullla, such as his academic work) and continually talking about inane off topic stuff(Legend of Zelda is the best game EVAR! Huh? Huh?!)

He calmed down a fair bit after he was semi banned.

As for spoilerish stuff... well Dr. Nomadic was the egregious offender but he claims to be only reading Spulla's thread. Despite this though he made several posts that could only be called gifted if they weren't spoiled. It's all way in the past now though.

This definitely happened.

There are several reasons for this e.g. They've been way closer to us and clearly they've been playing the best game so far so handing the victory to them feels alright. Also getting to 2nd place after being in desparate position feels pretty good end result.

I think our best alternative is to research either Military Tradition or Steel before starting full mobilization and war against HRE.
Looks like the ending will be a snoozefest. I'm definately not sharing the same philosophy than this team: When I had to make this same choice earlier, I choosed to attack and chase victory instead of being satisfied with other positions. What would you guys do?
