Sorry Krill. I'm just not a memer at heart




We'll be naming all of our cities after hobbits. Now, one could make an argument for Bandobras "Bullroarer" Took as our capital, but I decided to go with the more accessible name.

I also thought about going with Hobbit towns & villages within the Shire, but there honestly I want to do well this game and I'm probably run out of names if I went wtih that list.

As you can see, there are plenty of hobbit names to pick.

EDIT: Actually, I think I'll just limit myself to family names. There seem to be upwards of 60.

Turn 006, in the reckoning of the Shire





So Charismatic gets a little weaker, but that's the glass-is-half-empty approach to what is a gorgeously lush start.  It looks like we have the lands to our west as safely ours.  The gold seems like Second City territory, and yet there isn't a great way to hook it up.  Well, you can put a city 1S of the cow, but then that turns into a bad city after size 2 as you have no more food sources and only +2 growth.  So I'm looking at 1E of the cow right now for city #2.  SW of the gold and 2S of the gold are both better cities long term but slower.

All of it seems slow growth actually, to the point where I think I don't settle the gold with city #2.  Better to use the insane food at the capital to get the curve going and then grab commerce with city 3 or 4.  1S of the gems looks fantastic with that idea, sharing the deer, grabbing the pig and gems, and then getting the cows on border pop.  2E of the corn seems solid, picking up the sheep.  It looks a little awkward to share food the west, but I may just have to settle on top of the incense if I want to go that way.  Nothing seems better than to the north by the gems and pigs right now though.  Maybe we'll see better as we continue to scout first-ring spots with our scout.

Hunting due in 2.  Mining > Bronze Working is the plan after that, and then I'll need to decide between Wheel for economy or Mysticism for border pops.

The north looks like a coast too. Are we on our own landmass with narrow land bridges connecting to neighbors?




Demos, because I didn't think of a start and its haunting me a little now:




Somebody has gone work boat first. Assuming mirrored (or close to) starts, they moved to the plains hill and worked 5hpt for 6 turns and now have connected their fish. I'm not sure if that's better than my plan yet - and most people opted for a 3f start as well - but it irks me that I didn't check or even think to check.

That looks like a fantastic spot out east with the Fish/Stone/Cow; maybe my second city should go there?
