Yeah I thought it was necessary, particularly the rivers.

Yeah that was my hope.
(February 24th, 2021, 03:14)Old Harry Wrote: No dye or silk means cha isn't totally worthless, but you might want to take one of the ancient luxuries out as well (fur, ivory or whale as the metals can pop from a mine and unbalance things anyway). Actually I like the scarce whales, keep them.
Yeah I like the idea now of taking out the furs and lowering the happy cap a bit, but doing so devalues the border island flashpoint on the outside so I'm not sure I should. Actually it would be good to take out the ivory, but I've already shown them in the starting screen shot. Hmmmm. Dunno I think I might have to keep them in and just have the slightly higher happy cap. I think Cha is still going to be a nice boost with the lushness of the map and gems being jungled and the fight over island lux.

Haha I'm sure they'll find something.
(February 24th, 2021, 03:14)Old Harry Wrote: I'm a little worried that the layout of the string of islands will favour or hurt those with easy access to neighbouring continents, have you got a plan for that?
I'm also a little concerned, but I need to see how the toroidal map string plays out, the S5 start in the south will neighbor the two north starts so even if they aren't neighboring a second continent they have easy access to opponents across the way even if its the same continent, so the situation shouldn't be TOO different from the East West wrap. As long as the base is ready I'm going to play with the rest of the map tomorrow.
(February 24th, 2021, 03:24)Old Harry Wrote: One thing - the two southern pinch points only need one fort/city to move navies from inner to outer sea. The others need two. And S4 can canal through the capital (although who puts a fort in their capital?)
I can add a tile to the S4 inner sea start to break the fort chain. I think I'll add a tile or peak to break the single tile canal at those chokes
(February 24th, 2021, 03:24)Old Harry Wrote: Oh and there is a river at S3 that's the wrong way around.
I see it.
I'm going to start playing with the string tomorrow and see about how it smashes out.

Hmmmm a thought on the happiness. What if I move the wines to where the furs are and take the furs out to astrolands. That gives the outer contest islands value and removes an ancient luxury. What do you think about that?

I think that it is a good idea. Although I would prefer if you moved wines to where the silver is and moved silver to astro land. Having a non-obsoleting happy on the astro island feels thematically more suitable than fur. Moreover, having access to all 3 luxury metals early feels like a bit too much. On the other hand, it buffs IND in a nice way. I also get OH's point about popping metals from mines, so it's ultimately your decision.

I like it. Astro to plastics is a long stretch so the fur doesn't obsolete straight away but Erwin makes a good point.

Thanks for all the feedback so far guys, I started implementing some changes and worked on the more macro side of things today so I'm feeling fairly good about it.
First I moved the silver to astro and the wines to the inner islands. I changed the south chokes to at least 2 tiles. Then I added two lines on tiles East and South, moved the map into toroidal and added some bridge islands.
East and West Bridge islands:
The 2 5 tile islands connect the NE and W player and the SE and W player.
North and South Island:
Only one here it connects the NW and S player.
This gives each player access to at least one 5 tile bridge island and The West player has access to 2. Also each bridge island is at least 2 tiles from the mainland donut islands. All the bridge islands are jungled!
Astro island:
Again lots of jungle here. I put 3 silver, 3 dyes, and 2 whales on the astro islands, Add some rivers, some hills, some iron, copper, coal, oil, coal and a horse, It's all green too.
Is this too much for the astro island? Should I shrink it?
Also the positioning I realized as I was finishing up my session today:
I think I need to move the astro island North about 2 tiles... yeah?
Some feedback would be great. I'll make changes over the next couple days and finalize everything and the players settlers on Sunday.
One other question, should I stack the settler and scout on the S# tile? I think I should, I'll just manually defog what they should see from their starting Screen.

If someone gets an early astro they get two of those islands to settle, which seems very strong. Perhaps remove one of the happy and add some peaks? Astronomy is already powerful so no need to make it too much strongerr.
Don't overdo the nerf though - Intercontinental conflict and circumnavigation are both possible pre-astro on this map.
Yeah, move astro-land north a bit.

Final edit of the map is done. All the ciivs are in and in their start locations. I set all the civs to emperor, and I think I have all the right techs and everything. DO I just give the WBsave to Ram?

So I have the final edit but I'm not sure how to send it to Ram? I don't think I can send it through PM. Does anyone have his email?

The turn is about to roll only Frozen is left to End turn, which is great. Means the civs did get all fixed the game is really rolling now. We'll see what kvetching the map does produce in the end. I hope they enjoy it. In the end I made a map that I would want to play.
So far it seems like 2 people have settled T0. We know one is Jowy, though he hasn't given his reasoning. Not sure yet who the other is.
I think we're seeing a majority go for the sugar, which is fun.
Charriu's map investigations are entertaining.
Rusten has correctly recognized the question with the gems, whether one needs to settle on it or not. It will of course be up to whether players can develop other forms of happy. They'll have gold and ivory, but then the furs are a bit farther away and on the island. So settling on the gems might very well be needed in some players' cases with Emperor difficulty.
