[mod]- Close to Home is a mod that tries to basically just change the things that get banned/never picked in base BtS, plus a few quality-of-life changes. In our case, Rome is the exact same as BtS, but we're playing a leader that is a trait combo not found normally (Org/Pro). Protective got a big boost with +75% to domestic trade routes, so initial overland routes start at +2, and overseas are +3. Organized is the same ol' Org, but that trade boost means I'm really looking hard at the even-nerfed GLH (it's only +1 trade route).
[land]- I think at least one warrior, possibly two, needs to be pushed out before the first settler comes, so scouting the next city (Puckwudgie if you have a New England cryptid request) definitely will be A Thing. I think the inner sea has to be the next city, we want to have strong inner ports to claim that primary conquest vector.

Hmm - domestic only seems... maybe good maybe only decent? Wonder where the math on expected over-game commerce turns out. Hits a sweetspot in the "I have two domestic overseas islands, currency, but no astronomy" era, then may become mostly obsolete if we get enough open borders with those on other continents, and then useful again if we get crazy big. ++ to currency and sailing I suppose?
Would trade for fast granaries tho
We're clearly shaping up to be the Sea People - iron bearers from the waters that herald the end of ancient egypt. Hopefully we will not also disappear mysteriously without a trace.

Scouting below Tarkeel...hey sweet, it's Superdeath. And we've met him before Tarkeel.
SD with his Mysticism start is one of the candidates for Buddhism.
Domestically, we've just made our first worker and now we get to grow to two just in time to have the wheat farmed, nice.

Oh, er, and that's a buried lede. Some loon ignored the horrific tech costs and actually researched Mediation.

Some people always try to find a compromise that works. Doesn't mean they made a wrong move.

Looks like everyone gets gold *and* gems, so the warrior will need to scout for that, too. Dtay, what do you think about the GLH? Also, any chance you could play one turn if there's an awkward roll tomorrow? We're leaving on a mini-vacation Tuesday-Wednesday.
