Can you rush-buy units? That would be the only other use for that much gold.
"Superdeath seems to have acquired a rep for aggression somehow. In this game that's going to help us because he's going to go to the negotiating table with twitchy eyes and slightly too wide a grin and terrify the neighbors into favorable border agreements, one-sided tech deals and staggered NAPs."
-Old Harry. PB48.
Yes, with Universal Suffrage. Frozen also did mass upgrades since his production capabilities are limited.
And how is Plemo doing? Has he caught up a good amount in tech?

Follow-up 6: Asia
(Unfortunately, I don't have any good pictures of Asia. This is also outdated. The cities with Dutch names in the second the screenshot have been taken by Plemo and super-jm by now.) After Plemo had conquered the Khmer to his east the Holy Roman Empire (mostly) turned inward for many centuries developing her economy with as much strategic foresight and precise planning as the earlier military campaigns. Recently, the Empire emerged from its introspection with renewed vigor (and about 150 riflemen) to conquer the Russians (Stalin, Superdeath in eastern Siberia) to the east and the English to the west (Victoria, started in Georgia and expanded upwards into Ukraine and the Baltics). He has about 60 cities now and is close to infantry similar to Frozen and Dullland. Plemo is still some economic techs behind the African leaders but his economy is the strongest in the world now and his production and military power outclass any single competitor. Further to the south JP also took his cut out of Superdeath's Russian empire. He has recently started to expand into North America conquering 10 or so cities from the Egyptians in Alaska and western Canada in just a few turns and finally extorting another city for peace. This has been his modus operandi the whole game taking cities wherever he could via extortion, diplomacy and very limited use of force. After this latest haul, he is only a few cities behind Plemo and also close to Assembly Line. Super-jm's position is largely unchanged. He conquered the weak Americans on the Arabian Peninsula and vultured a couple cities from Victoria (one taken, one sold by Plemo because it was crushed by Ottoman culture). He is powerful enough that the major powers seek cordial relations with him but is no contender himself. Overall, it looks like Plemo will win yet another game (I think this would make him 4 out of 4.) JP, Dullland and maybe Coco also still have a shot.
Both are possible but space is more common. The Mali in Scandinavia is pursuing a culture victory. The issue he has is that he has no real backline so at least one of his culture cities will likely be on the coast.
One thing I am still wondering about is the behavior from the beginning. You remember how some people used up almost the full 48 hour period to play their turn.
1. Why were they doing that? 2. Is this normal at civforum?

I haven't done a tally, but I think it's often the team-led civs. The members don't want to end the turn early without their teammates checking in. Edit: But I'm also told that civ play times are like gas. They'll expand to fill any available timer. I haven't been paying too much attention to PB88 lately, but has all the rules-drama been sorted out? I checked in twice and it looked like there was double move and gold-gifting conversations happening, so I backed out.
There is no way to peace. Peace is the way.
My guess is also that it's a consequence of team dynamics. You are also not very circumspect Charriu.
Have some cool pictures and news as consolation: The culling is continuing. The Egypt in Western Canada (and Alaska) has holed up in his last two cities after a Viking galleon + rifle invasion almost wiped him off the map in 5 turns. His longbows are now facing Viking infantry and he will join the list of the dead who now outnumber the living. Sauron (Zulu in Egypt) has attacked super-jm and conquered 3 cities. This is the first war between major powers in a long time. Unfortuantely, we do not have any first-hand information about this conflict. Flunky has resumed his invasion of Australia after getting painfully rebuffed on the first attempt. He now has destroyers though. |
