We've decided to seize the initiative, and will declare this turn, so we're waiting for the last member of the triple alliance to play.

Didn't we have this drama back in PB55, which I seem to remember really triggering Jowy? Now he's doing the same thing here; he's been dragging his feet on playing the last 20 turns, absolutely killing the turnpace and my motivation for the game. The handful of times that we were allowed to play first last, I dutifully obliged rule #1 and played my fucking turn, taking the double. I could live with taking the first half of the turn timer, but because the other three players are in a defensive alliance and two of them have played, we'll be stuck in the middle. I really hate to be the rules lawyer, but after the 55 debacle I did not expect this from Jowy.

Based on his movements last turn, I estimated he would attack next turn, and was going to beat him to the punch by declaring this turn. If a lurker could please clarify the stituation it would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: Additionally, we have been careful not to make any moves where we would gain an advantage; the only exception being the turn we upgraded destroyers, in a desperate hope to avoid a turnsplit altogheter. The other side has double-moved to their advantage, hiding their navies from my scouts, but it didn't matter in the end.

I really want to post this in the tech thread, but I'll just leave it here:

Hi, I took a look at PBSpy and it seems the turn rolled when it should, a bit after 24 hours smile

Yes we were waiting to play after Amica and Superdeath since we have been playing after them for the last five turns. We did not want to double move them.

Oh. Did you remember to tell them?

Everyone should give it a read, especially Team Lewwyn.

Holy shit. Are these rules that include "don't be a dick?"

Mm I don't expect them to follow that one, but at least make it so next time we can just have their turn skipped when they play clock games.

The main difference between this situation and that, is that the turn didn't roll. I explicitly stated in our thread that we wanted to declare this turn, because I knew something like this was likely to happen.

Turn 237 (1635 AD) The Fecal Matter hits the Rotary Impeller
After finally getting to play, the state was not what we expected:

The navy had actually retreated, making us unable to do an alpha-strike, but also too far away to do anything. SD cancelled open borders, but Cairo didn't, and also didn't move up his stack. Jowy's Ruffland stack is holing up in Pollicitation. Well, the plan still stands, try to force peace with them, so we declare war on Jowy, which triggers his defensive pact with Cairo. Cairo's pact with SD on the other hand did not trigger, and was just cancelled, so we declare on SD as well.

We strike the fleet units that are in range without exposing destroyers, as well as some assorted scouts:
C1 Destroyer vs C1 Galleon, >99.9%: win, 9 hp lost
C2 Destroyer vs Caravel, >99.9%: flawless win
C1 Caravel cs C1 Caravel, 50%: win!
Cavalry vs Horse Archer, 99.9%: win
Destroyer vs Privateer, >99.9%: flawless win
C2 ShipOfTheLine vs Frigate, 98.6%: flawless win

We pillage what we can reach of fishing nets, and put some forces into position to punish SD's coast next turn, while offering everying peace. I doubt they will take it. Biology comes in next turn, and then I think we're heading for tanks.

Turn 238 (1640 AD)
Their navies are still evading contact, so we snipe off part of their stack and retreat to safety.
C1 Destroyer vs C1 Frigate, >99.9%: win, 11 hp lost
C3 Destroyer vs C2 Frigate, >99.9%: win, 10 hp lost
C2 Destroyer vs C2 Frigate, >99.9%: win, 22 hp lost
C1 Destroyer vs C1 ShipOfTheLine, >99.9%: win, 11 hp lost
C1 M Destroyer (28.5) vs C1 ShipOfTheLine, >99.9%: flawless win

None of the land stacks are in range; we did look at some amphibious strikes but the odds weren't worth taking. Cairo offered us a cease fire, so we re-offfered peace to him. Lastly, our demographics are still looking a bit silly:

Turn 239 (1645 AD)
Cairo returned the offer of peace, and we took it; we're not in this war to fight. I do worry that Cairo is heading for a culture victory though. There's some bad news this turn as Superdeath has combustion now and upgraded 4 of his ships to destroyers. Jowy bombarded Bakura with airships and took it with knights, taking less losses than I'd like. That's the fourth different owner for that city! I would have preferred to keep it, but it's main purpose was always to be a crumple-zone towards Jowy.

We can't allow SD to run around with destroyers, so we ping the top one with the lone airship in range; I had evacuated most of them from Kiffex, expecting it to be assaulted.
C2 Destroyer vs C1 Destroyer, 67.6%: loss, winning only 1 round
C2 Destroyer vs C2 Destroyer (24.0), 81.2%: win, down to 24 hp
C2 Destroyer (28.2) vs Destroyer, 69.7%: win, down to 76 hp
C1 Destroyer vs C1 Destroyer (26.1), 70.6%: loss, taking it to 7 hp
C3 Destroyer vs C1 Destroyer (24), 86.5%: win, down to 22 hp

There's one badly damaged destroyer left, but his ShipOfTheLine will defend before it now, so we can't finish it. One of our destroyers can't make it back into Kiffex, but I'm afraid that if we defend it, he can wipe our fleet, so we dangle it as bait outside. That would make it 3 for 3 which we can afford better than him, but still our combat luck has turned. We use our last two destroyers to take a parting shot on his fleet:
C2 Destroyer (23.4) vs C1 ShipOfTheLine, >99.9%: win, taking 11 damage
C1 M1 Destroyer (28.5) vs C1 ShipOfTheLine, >99.9%: flawless win

Tanks are due in about 9 turns, less if we trigger a golden age next turn. Fondor has a 74% chance of giving us the one we need (while still saving a merchant for Sushi)

Just putting it out there that if people are no longer finding fun in this game, I'm ok with calling it.
