My new goals for this game:
1. Stop naufrager at the capital. Get him to sue for peace. Await the inevitable.
2. Use the peace to punish Amicalola. I'm thinking swords on galleys burning his coastal cities.

Turn 086, in the Scourging of the Shire
The wind is changing, I can smell it in the air. The fell easterly clouds are losing their strength and now a wind from the west will blow them away.
It's common knowledge that moving 2nd is preferable. But what are the advantages of going 1st? On defense, you get to move your unit before the attacker even realizes it is there. And so on offense sometimes you think you have an opening when really it is a steel shut gate.
So on his half of t85 naufrager moved up a chariot onto the Pig hill and saw an undefended Brandybuck, then assumed he could split his forces and threaten to take it. At end of turn a spear finished and moved along roads to kill one of those chariots. I then covered the wounded spear with a warrior and covered the city with an archer and the chariot that last turn killed naufrager's scout.
I am really curious to see what he does next turn. Does he realize his window is closing? Does he have a second wave incoming? Because they need to come up fast if they are going to make any more gains.
I risked finishing my settler last turn because I want to settle that iron NOW. I want 6 strength swords in my counter-attack before naufrager realizes that he needs to defend differently. We drop off on 87, settle on 88 and hopefully will have the iron mined by 90, but that depends on how quickly we can pick up more workers.
The wind is changing, people.

I ducked in to see what was happening, and I had an offer
I took a look around and am thinking on this. But I think I reoffer and use the time to go beat the crap out of Amicalola.

Long day, I got home late and finally played but I guess it gave me plenty of time to think on things.
First off, as much as I want to I cannot reasonably hope to take out naufrager's army right now. I might have had a shot if somebody hadn't cut my copper though! So peace is definitely the way to go.
So what do we do with our peace? Obviously I want to hit amicalola back for this but is that the right play? It may be the best thing to do here is just to rush out a wave of settlers and resettle everythign that was lost. Which really feels bad because in the end Amicalola ends up making the right play by burning my cities. Well, we're just going to have to emphasize how much it was the wrong play.
I can load an axe and chariot onto the galley nearest his borders next turn. Maybe we can take a swing at something. The second galley is about 4 turns farther behind.
i also need to be ready for naufrager to come right back in 10 turns. So what makes more sense: Math & Construction or HBR?

Why not both?

Well, it's a priority thing too. Right now Math or HBR are both 5 turns at full research - I have lost half my cities, even if I kept the crown jewel. So do I rely on Swords to get me through to Catapults (probably 15-20 turns)? Do I go for the quicker Horseback Riding and start massing an army in about 7 turns? Or do I even ignore both and go Metal Casting to retreat to the waves / grow the capital with forges? Okay, probably not that last one.

I had a worker get a weird command due to lag of people entering the game when I was trying to mvoe it to safety and now it's possibly going to be snatched by Amicalola. (I honestly have no idea what it was told to do, it lost all its actions and I can't see that it actually did any improvement on its tile.) Is this big enough to warrant a reload? As much as it pisses me off I think no but if any lurker is reading this let me know if you think it does.

Would it be acceptable to IM amicalola and explain that the worker is still in his sight because of lag caused by someone logging in while I was playing? He agrees not to capture it, we avoid a reset, and I lose a worker turn but not my freaking mind?

Sounds reasonable. Log in lag is a bastard.
