I don't know if the first turn has rolled yet or not, but I'd have a think about going worker first instead of work boat if you still have the opportunity. A lot of players build a sim for the slow opening turns, a single player game where they match the terrain to what they've discovered. They can then experiment with different openings, see what is better and plan ahead. Given this is a greens game, I don't expect everyone to sim out their opening, but some will.

Anyway, I haven't checked this but my gut instinct is that with a 6 yield wheat to be improved vs only a 4f crabs, worker first usually ends up with a faster opening than workboat.

Interesting. With the 2F 2H ivory I was thinking on building a workboat and a warrior or another workboat so the city would be size 2 before building a worker. Wouldn't that build the workboat and worker faster than going worker - workboat?

Checking out the 2 options:

Workboat first:
8t workboat 32/30, 16/22f
2t grow 24/22 6/15 warr
8t worker 64/60

Leaving us on 2/24, 10/15 warr after 18t

vs

10t worker
4t grow on ivory 8/22, 16/30h
wheat improved, work that 3t - 23/22, 25/30
1t to finish workboat 6/24, 30/30

Leaving us on 6/24f, 0/15h warr after 18t. But the wheat is already improved and we also have 3 other worker turns that could be doing something useful(farm corn?).

The wheat is just such a strong tile compared to the crab that it is hard for the workboat to win.

The worker does seem to be better value to start improving early. I changed to producing a worker first. Starting with a 2F 2H tile is something that does not usually happen in my experience but I am not complaining.

(I had some trouble adding a picture to this thread as it kept saying my picture file was too big.)

By the way moving your scout that way was a lost turn. In 5 turns your capital pops borders giving you the same visibility. Moving your scout away from the capitol would have been better

I wanted to make sure there were no sea resources up north that would have caused me to not settle in place.

Trying to post the next picture but no luck. Even saving the picture as a gif file the lowest size I could get it was 793 kb. The minimum size is 500 kb.
