Ah I missed that. I think it's fair to say that our mapmakers are not so evil to orphan a sea food by settling in place

I am used to random maps. This start is way better than most random starts.

If you press the "Print" key, Civ4 will made a screenshot in "[My Documents]\My Games\Beyond the Sword\Screenshots". The size of this JPG depends on the screen resolution. Are this images already too big in your environment?

That is even better. The images are around 250kb.

Even more resources. The bare plains hill looks like a good second city site to me. Also it looks like this is a map of South and Central America...

That plains hill spot does look super juicy. What are your thoughts on techs after agriculture?

I went with fishing next for some more commerce and so the city can produce a work boat and grow. Techs that I think I need next are the wheel, animal husbandry, mysticism, and archery. Good thing I did not start with a workboat as I thought that I already had fishing when I could build one.

What I am currently thinking of for city sites. This may change as I explore more. Did I mention I like settling on hills for the defensive bonus?

I think this is an under-appreciated idea, especially since you're Protective as well. I recommend trying to figure out where you think the "border regions" will be so you can know where that hill defensive bonus is most valuable.

There's a probably more important reason to settle on hills though: A city on a plains hill gets 2 hammers, where all other normal city tiles only get 1 hammer. That free hammer can be a pretty big deal for the initial expansion.
