I also have realized that, thanks to border expansion, most of the spots E of the capital are pretty safe to send an unescorted settler to, in that I'm only going to have it die on the turn it walks onto the spot it would found, but I don't want to delay the settle by 3 or 4 turns, so I'll either lose now or get the spot. Shrug.
[PB 61 - Spoilers] rekenner stands the Test of Time. ... Hopefully.

The PH spot is nice, but not great if you ask me - the sheep is only 4f, and takes 8 worker turns (but of course you get the chop), and the lake is lost for lighthousing.
In light of the barb danger I'd just found south of the rice. Between the rice and the oasis that city grows significantly faster, it also gets the horse, and can help with cottages. on monarch you really don't need the silver commerce as early - and actually, this city has an instant trade connection, while the PH needs 2 awkward roads, so it will come out on top commercially for a good number of turns (you also have to grow the city and mine the silver before it becomes useful, while trade comes in from turn 1 on). Ok, rereading this I would absolutely found that city even with two warriors on hand. Just claim silver with city 4 or 5, maybe E of it? On the combat luck, gettin such rolls twice really sucks. hopefully the game remembers what it owes you once it gets to fighting players!
South of the rice is the clear best tile for the second city, for all of the reasons that Miguelito mentioned. I felt like I was reading my exact thought process when I saw Miguelito's post from yesterday. It would also be helpful if we could see your current research in some of the screenshots; what's your planned research path and upcoming builds in the capital?
Yeah. I was just a bit ("just a bit") tilted off yesterday -- The rice spot is definitely the better spot, for... every reason, really. Y'all were correct, and I hope I'd have reread previous posts + thought about it and realized that once I came back with a calmer head. Barbs get to me in a way that actual war rarely does, because it feels a lot more random (and there's just so much less you can do to be prepared).
The fast pace of the turns + a bit busy of a week have left my reporting a bit in shambles. Techs finished: Agri, Hunting, AH. Current research: Bronze Working to finish on t36. Some part of me wants to go for Fishing before Pottery, but I don't think I can justify that. So once I finish BW then it's probably just clicking Currency (eg, Pottery -> Writing -> Math -> Currency), although I still might want to dip back for Fishing at some point. But getting to Granaries and Cottages faster is more important than the Beakers I save from known-tech. I think. Current state of the Capital, Gloomhaven: Losing the scout and warrior have made me quite unsure what to build next. My plan was going to be a second worker - there's many, many tiles to be improved and some chops to be done. And... Agh, I think that's still right? Not having scouting feels so bad, but I think I still have to just get the worker labor going, and the second city can grow on a warrior, even if that will be much slower to finish. Second Worker will finish on t32 once the deer W of the capital splits off. Capital switches to any one of the 3 Foodhammer tiles. Worker is starting to improve the Ivory tile. It's not the best tile to get improved, but it's the right tile for right now, in that the worker had to be a bit "out of position", and while improving the Ivory does not improve that problem, it has to be improved eventually. This will be finished on T30, which sadly doesn't get the worker back to being 4 turns, nor does it improve the time on BW, but it's still a 4 FH + 1 Commerce tile, which is the same as the Rice at the second city will be. But the second city can also grow onto the Oasis as another tile to work, so I think getting this awkwardly placed tile improvement out of the way now is the best time to do it. Yeah, then I probably should have just started moving the worker over. The capital works a weaker tile, but I get a better tile going faster.
The founding of Terraforming Mars! Er... TFMars, as "Terraforming Mars" is too long. It's normally "TFM" as abbreviated, but that's a bit too short.
Currently running my 1 turn of 100% gold, then BW will actually finish on T35, thanks to the Ivory + Oasis. I had done the math wrong, prior. There's nothing S of the screenshot, except what seems like some Tundra in the fog. It might be a peak? Oh, and the whales S of the fish. I got very excited when I saw those, btw - Whales were amazing in Civ2, but then I remembered that they.... sorta suck in Civ4. In a game that might end before Optics.... they seem like a trap. But there's no seafood near that little bit of land SW of the capital. But there is wine and more wheat. (Shoot. I didn't realize the show resources indicators were blocking the status bars of the cities. Gloomhaven finishes worker on t32, TFMars grows to size 2 and second ring borders on t33, finishes warrior on t36) Quote:Terraforming Mars Mini-Review: (July 18th, 2021, 18:08)rekenner Wrote: Yeah. Fwiw I find one of the hardest parts in these games is not to become too determined on one plan once you decide for it, and to remain flexible and keep evaluating other options. I think it's due to the slow pace - you get to flesh out and rethink a plan a lot, and it makes it harder to tjem abandon it (for me at least). Dedlurkers, who are not as invested, are supposed to help with that, and gladly you have 2. I can feel your pain regarding the ivory, and I'm also unsure what was the correct thing to do there, given that you were there already. Are you going to road it, while you're there? It might be only three additional worker turns lost, if the road is then actually useful for the worker (say, in order to get onto a forest and start a chop). Roading the cow would have saved another turn, but also delayed the tile yield of course, so TFM looks like a nice second city When are you planning to revolt? Right after research? With another settler moving? After another worker build?
Miguelito - I'll get back to your post in a second, because we have an interesting development...
Sound the Klaxons! A Vanrober has been spotted! We've almost certainly missed out on a couple turns of known tech bonus for Bronze Working, thanks to that Warrior dying. (That's mostly a joke)
So, okay -- Talk to me about CtH and the no score mod. Does our placement in the list have any meaning? And 1 vs 2 to the right of our names is number of cities?
Also, are the top 5 cities and the demos screens still right? Vanrober as immediate neighbor is definitely a good thing, in terms of that they're one of the easier people for me to take land from. Not IMP or CRE. No early game offensive unit. |
