[Mjmd #60] Why even buy toys for kids?

Its turn 125, so wanted to post something /shrug. I was going to do all graphs, but my 3/1 never shows up well and I'm too lazy to show them all. If no one has showed recently I guess you can ask me.

I think food graph does a good job of showing my short comings this game and why this golden age isn't the end all be all. I barely have more food than Jowy, which isn't surprising because 5 of my cities are super new. I also want to note the HG spike was VERY important. Not just for the multiple new cities at that time, but also my MoM plan wouldn't have worked without it (would have been delayed 4-5 turns min).

Current player thoughts in order:
-Amica is leading. Somehow placed an 18th!!! city. Really got paid off for both own strong performance and weak GKC. I imagine going for knight attack after build infrastructure.

-Me by a hair. MoM is good ya'll. That and all the free GP generation I have.
-Jowy - Great tech, but not a ton of cities. To note cities he does have are very good. I want to note that all the lumbermills make a lot more sense with the early golden age. Lumbermills are very good during golden ages and with his low city count he needs the extra production.

Laztueq - mainly above SD due to incoming AP (man am I tempted to try stealing, but it's just not doable). Main weakness is gnp and how far of a hole they dug themselves. Also that they are double bordering Amica.
SD - Again very well played game thus far. Recently built a ton of wealth to acquire tech.


GKC - WHAT HAPPENED GKC!!!!! Def hurt by map shape and distance, but so was SD. I think just missed the timing really needed. In PB56 when I played agg Rome something key I did was an early scientist to bulb math. I know someone got an early scientist, but not sure if it was GKC / someone else for an academy (I logged out or I would check the 3 capitals I can see).

Other things:
I'll show Sand once its grown more. Not financial colossus maoi golden age, but still sexy. Man that one whip for safety units still haunts me. SD placing that city early and being creative just spooked me.

Lazteuq got AP this turn (so good thing I didn't try I guess)

I got Great Wall and working extra specialist. Actually only dropped turns by 1 (although some mad overflow). I could work a couple merchants (prob just 1), but this would raise chance of a main type. Might do on last turn to drop by 1? /shrug.

I forgot to mention in my other section that Couch Cushions is 3 away from holy city and NEEDS A SPREAD PLEASE!!!!

SD got HBR and I think got construction same turn I did. I will also research HBR for some elephants.

T128 - WAR!

So this isn't a war to kill. This is a war to punish building wealth for techs such as CoL that also require heavy hammer investment. Plus weaken eventual conquest. I may end up 1 city. Events are getting spicy elsewhere though...... and I also don't want a medium strong SD hanging out on my borders. Jowy's power is above mine. I think the madman went for Berserkers!!! (man I want to play Vikings after this game lol). To be fair great map for them.

Northern Front: This one SD could see with his scout in Amica's lands. Because of Amica's annoying city there is 0% chance I keep. Also its just really hard to get reinforcements here. One neat fact is most of these units were built in Beds (which I switched to a spear after this pic although I trust Amica's fish for fish about 1000% times more than SD). Maybe I keep pushing and try to raze another city? There is jungle and hills between me and the next one but I expect 4-5 units to die to raze plus another 1-2 injured so probably just retreat.

I'M AND IDIOT AND SO ARE ALL YOU!!!!! None of you asked about the loaded galleys top of my last picture. I'm disappointed in all of you. I'm disappointed in myself because while I was religiously checking deer culture I was not checking the culture on the line of ocean between my island and SD...... It flipped 2 turns before invasion (to be fair better than 1 turn before). I was hoping to raze 2 core cities in the interior, but instead brute force SOUTHERN ASSAULT!!!! Because I expected to be on a raze mission I didn't leave pop to whip cat until this turn and I didn't want to wait as I could tell SD knew it was coming (walls walls everywhere along with power spiking) plus he just got relevant military tech. I ended up dropping off both of the other axes after this pic although I'll still pretend otherwise and sail 1 galley north with triremes while other 3 go to galley chain. Plan is to raze and resettle on the plains hill.

But ya with SD having access to elephants and cats I don't expect to be able to push forward. If I was willing to whip myself blind maybe? But not the plan. Plan weaken SD and see how world events turn out. I proposed Amica attack Lazteuq, but honestly I may change that request to jump in against Jowy if GKC power doesn't start spiking.......

I almost forgot. Important lesson kids. NEVER ask for a religion spread. I either shouldn't have asked or been more specific than referencing holy city 3 tiles away. I got confusionism there...... I've now gotten 2 spreads of it vs 2 spreads for my own religion......... cry

Why does SD only have luck vs me!!!!!

He sent in 1 cat in the north and it withdrew after dealing some good collateral on a lot of units ........ Luckily I had my promos available so wasn't that bad So I sent in my cats, neither withdrew and 1 of them only collateral-ed 3 units. I won none of my below 50% fights. Lost two fights around 50% and lost a 71%. So he is left with a very injured axe (.2) and his cat that withdrew. I have 6 units there. Only reinforcements I'm seeing the south is 1 warrior. It looks like he might take a shot at my city with 2 war chariots. He pretty much just has to get 1 really lucky roll with war chariot.

To further my misery someone else is going aesthetics line....... I really wanted to stake my claim and go the optics line next. Ah well. I'm trying to figure out what to do with great people and future golden ages. For instance I could use the music artist as my 2nd for next golden age, but then its going to be really iffy on a 3rd type for 3rd golden age.

SD sent me a peace treaty offer basically saying you go fight Amica the strongest player I swear I won't backstab you......... Also stop trading with them. I razed the northern city. Southern city has too much in it atm. I will galley chain some reinforcements there soon. Replacements settler will be out next turn. I should raze T134. Once replacement its settled, then he can have peace and I can see what is happening between Jowy and GKC, which is the actual direction I want to expand as one is super weak and other is also strong, but if focused elsewhere........ Again shape of map Lazteuq is the one that should**** be doing something about Amica more than me.

Someone got literature!!!! Its either Lazteuq or Jowy. Jowy's golden age just ended and I wouldn't think Lazteuq can keep it up. Both for Great Library overflow and also just raw gold took some specialists off of Rocks. I also put some newer cities to wealth. I may do even more wealth builds in a couple of 'actual' cities.

I got a great general I'm not sure what to do with. I don't have an obvious city to just pump military atm.

T131 I thought about being a coward and withdrawing this turn. He has a great general and 2 cats, but about half the hitters I do. We shall see what he does. He also did a turn of espionage on me!!!! So he can see my reinforcements ect ect. SD also has way more triremes than I would have expected. I wonder if he was building some when I declared (maybe expecting me to attack via navy like I was going to). I kind of wish after I realized i couldn't do the naval attack that I had taken the first half of the turn. I think with how reinforcements are coming it might very well matter. IE I didn't see anymore for next turn, but if he get another cat plus hitters T133 he gets to hit first T134.

I have about 12 beakers left on literature and turned on a lot of wealth builds so hoping to be able to finish music next turn. If someone steals this turn no research is lost at least.

Edit: I logged back in and offered peace if he gives me 100g. I wouldn't get what I wanted, but I may have accomplished enough by making him whip himself a bunch.

SD spent 2.5 hours on a turn yikes . I'm positive that is the longest turn he has played in any game I've been in. There is a galley with unknown units on it, but assuming a cat or two it was time to get the heck out of there. Jowy also has not yet played this turn, so I sweetened the peace treaty with 5gpt.

I changed my tech from music after picture, I realized Jowy got it, so instead put all of the overflow into machinery. Only good thing is I got to cancel all my wealth builds and change to mostly military builds.

Still at war although SD didn't take a shot so I got to fully retreat this turn. I sweetened it to 100g flat. Now he might just be on eternal war path, but does he remember who it was who took at 9% shot to destroy a city early. 100% he has no memory of this event.

I wasn't able to finish machinery this turn (I realized I should probably tech archery first last turn). Its super sad because I set up a lot of things to finish next turn, so either I have to build something else or build wealth for a turn to preserve overflow.
