The last time I played a game in this era was PB43, and I remember there being a lot of complaints about how slow teching was in this era, to the point where by the time Industrialism was reached, most of us just pretty much stopped teching.
Well, now it seems to have gone the other way. Teching is way too fast in this era now. It should not take only 15-20 turns to go from Factories and Tanks to Nukes and Modern Armour and Jets.
I'm obviously not very invested in this game any more (unfortunately I was on holiday during the period when I might have been able to have an impact, and since then I've just been left far far behind by everyone else.), but normally I would enjoy playing in this period, however with teching speed the way it is, falling behind just a little is deadly.

That's because this map is gigantic. If you had room for 8-12 cities per original civ, and didn't start with eleventy billion players, tech wouldn't be nearly as fast.

Also RtR scales up the later era tech costs. And we probably should have played with a smaller map size setting in PB43.

I can't even begin to imagine the time and effort each turn requires of Amicalola. At least he has Nukes to make things easier (rip me), but still. Big props to him.
I don't think we should play games on maps this big tbh. I don't think the game is really balanced well enough for late game play on such large maps, and I worry that any attempt to do so would unbalance the game for the earlier eras.

On the topic of balance, would you be interested in playing a total rebalance mod? Something that completely rebuilt the economics and victory conditions of a civ game?

Now you made me curious. Not that I want to join, just curious what you will present us with

If anything, it is an idea, not a reality, but I know this is beyond my capabilities to create.
