Surely they'll also reroll the snakepick order that had us in the third spot for a good chance at or desired pick, right?
Yeah I feel the same :/ but it’s much better that he can join if he wants to play.
This was a beautiful roll for our pre-game plan. I was even doing some mental math on the openings while walking to lunch. (CRE saves one turn on the worker in WB-Worker)

Coast to the west, pick Vikings anyways? Hunting is pretty good at least.

Asoka of Holy Rome? Looks like coast to the north and west if you're still hot for vikings (which still works because hunting), but inland capital makes me sus on that.
Mongolia seems like another fun option for this start, could pair with CRE for some early options if map doesn't let us play the Guilds game.
Misc notes: that is a killer capital for Bureaucracy.
Crosspost edit: yeah, bottom half but not bottom is my least favorite spot in a snake draft.
We death war Mjmd for bringing this upon us, right?
2nd Edit: No wait, I know, we build Hanging Gardens

Yeah you'll have to talk me out of Vikings
Actually that looks like quite a considerable amount of coast.
Point taken re: bureaucap, which also harmonizes nicely with Vikings and Asoka

Krill says that the map is finished, so maybe basing a pick off of foggazing is legit? idk..
If you really think there's that much coast, why not Frederick and go for a wonder (like GLH), especially since we'll want an academy in the capital?
Also, an easy early golden age to reach Civil Service and swap in at the end of it.
The more I think about the more I'm selling myself on Zara of Mongols, it's a threat at every point in the game, but I'd have to convince you

Yes, Spiritual is stronger than PHI by the late medieval, but we already have ORG for lategame, so unless you want to double up on scaling boni (which is a fine choice, I'm passive as they come), I'd recommend something a teensy bit faster than SPI.
The bigger problem I see with SPI is how ungodly green all the land around us is. I expect a very lush map, so that's one mark for an expansion trait, and one mark against SPI because I doubt Serfdom will be the way to go.

Hm, mostly I just enjoy Spi, but Phi could also be fun, and I know you're a fan...
What does Frederick have to do with wonders though?
And yes, GLH is high on the list. I was a bit frustrated in PB59, where we built what was supposed to be the perfect Colossus (t78(?), super watery map, Fin leader), but ultimately I had to realize how much better GLH was at any point, not even counting it having close to twice the lifespan. Granted it was also the perfect GLH map. Now if Tarkeel picks FDR we'd probably have to accept it.
Just reading your latest post - is Phi more early-gameish in your book than Spi? Spi at least saves an early turn. Fwiw we can also do Julius or Nappy, or even Mehmed. You mentioned before harbours being buffed. Less hot for Cre, I can hardly remember the last time I founded a city and wished it had a reallly fast 2nd ring.
Anybody know how have past map by Krill have been in terms of lushness?

Phi increases the rewards of building a wonder. Changing from 50 turn GP to 20 turn is very strong.
Spi kicks in after you have civics/religion to switch to/temples to build. Phi starts working as soon as you build a wonder or a library
I suspect that a map from one of the old guard, who has on multiple occasions mentioned that pastures should be at hunting, will be lush and easy on the expansion/snowball. Though I’ll go double check some Krill maps for reference if anyone mentions the PB numbers.
I think I like Mehmed best out of Julius and Nappy. Capital is juiced, faster granary in the capital means faster 6->3 cycle. Though I like Asoka and Fred better than either.

Ok re: Phi. I was just thinking along the lines of what helps us to get the wonder up, but of course Phi profits more of it.
Regarding getting it (GLH) up, what helps are Imp, Exp (although pottery before Sailing/Masonry on top of AH might lose it?), Spi (1 turn saved on slavery revolt), maybe Cha, and Ind of course but I'm really not interested in that. Spi has the disadvantage that it also really wants mids and you generally shouldn't aim for both.
Fwiw with Spi on a lush map, would you not just cycle between slavery and caste instead of serfdom? I remember caste doing a lot of good for us in 59.
I'm warming up to Freddy, but I feel it's a bit of an all in getting that we'll have a feasible GLH city, which probably would have to be to the west sharing the deer? And from what I see in the fog it's possible that that city will just be mostly coast? Asoka could pivot to a mids mission; wheat would your Plan B be for Freddy? Mids as well and enjoy Rep specialists?
