Note I may still very well change anything outside the cross.
This one probably won't get hot for 2 months. YOU'RE FINE.
What happened with RB players during my absence? In my previous game, Nauf got bloodlusted because of a deer, now mjmd is going berserk because of a fish. Guys, can't you chill out?
Like, what do you do when you are bankrupt after a lucky early conquest? Disband the army, sit back, and consolidate? No, you immediately attack the next largest civ in the game after yourself. Because your cities contest a fish resource. How does that make sense?
What the fuck mjmd is doing. He was a game leader 40 turns ago but now is about to lose the great power status and hand the game to P&P in the process. I think he completely misplayed his position.
1) He turned his nation into some kind of libertarian dystopia. Free speech + slavery + free market + free religion. He produces next to no hammers but has super-whips powered by Biology + Kremlin + Cereal Mills. This is all very cute but I do not see this set up competitive after industrialization and he ran out of time and golden ages to switch to anything else. Strategically he pretty much lost, he needs me to hit Rome hard and soon to have any hope. 2) Beelining Assembly Line was a mistake in this setup, I think, even though it is not an obvious choice and I can be convinced otherwise. He should have taken MilTrad + Steel instead. Cavalry and Cannons can quite reliably handle Infantry on defense and in this way he would have much more time to build a competitive army - especially if he decided to lose Nationhood. 3) I think going Astro and building a massive wooden navy was a pure waste. It was way too optimistic for him to go coastal raiding against Rome, he only needed to defend his coast and for that purpose, Ironclads would do. 4) Going free religion instead of theocracy and losing the second promo was completely insane in his position. It would be really annoying if he just collapses in the next ten turns, winning against Rome after that would be very hard.
One thing he could do would be to skip Constitution / Economics / Corporation / Astro and instead pick up Military Tradition and beeline Combustion. He could have metal navy by now or be very close.
The big strategic question I am agonizing about now is whether I can win the game without going to war against Rome. On one hand, they were stupid enough to put Mining Inc in Rom which I can reach by a seven-mover and I will be able to mass produce those soon. Without Mining Inc headquarters they are fucked. On the other hand, they have significant strategic advantages over me and it will be a rather chaotic war.
If I don't go to war, the plan is I eat Ginger and win the space race. Assuming Rome does not expand it should be doable - their economy is unimpressive for golden age and they are pretty much maxed out. The risk is that their strategy might be to build a force that is able to take out one great power while holding off the other two. Right now, I think, they have more hammers than all three of us combined, though it would not last. If this is their plan, then alpha strike against Rome and a follow-up dogpile might be the only option.
Why is it so important to destroy the Mining Inc. headquarters?
