Why are all of our opponents units out of position?

All of them. Japan is about to lose the entire navy, then Chev and Inc have units failing to blockade a Faith CS. It just looks bad for them.

Turn 56
The homelands are simple, uncontested areas. I'll note at this point that there are three one tile choke points surrounding the capitals, not four.
Without pre-empting Thrawns report, there are four Japanese galleys surrounded by five longboats to the NW, there are three longboats unopposed to capturing a CS and the Japanese second city, three blocked one tile choke points and a partly blocked tone tile chokepoint that can get attacked by two longboats at the same time, and two longboats and a warrior ready to go harrass Woden.
19 longboats in the picture, and one just out of it. There is no way to push the main force west to slam into Banzai without removing the Japanese navy from the game because Ljub is blocking the chokes. But he can't retreat either so...120 mil power should be gone in 3 turns? The only way either of them can recapture cities right now is through loyality, and I have to ask, can you flip capitals via loyality, and do their capitals causes disloyality to each other?
Thrawn, this is what I mean by out of position: the two Mogadishu boats could remove the Japanese galley on the choke on T58 right, and the only way to stop it is if they put a boat on the fish which delays it, or possibly retreat NE to leave only one tile to attak from? And whilst they screw around doing this, we can end up holding seven cities to their two and you are absolutely right, we just leave them to be buried by their own resources.
TAD tried to interdict at Mog and lost 4 galleys. Ljub didn't know where to go and then triwed to reposition to retake a DS and is about to get crushed in a vice. Chev and Inc I will comment on shortly.
An example of distances, but I count 4 longboats will converge on Woden in the next 6 turns? Most of this should be open map which is nothing but barb spawning ground and kill zones with a CS just off screen to the south east.
So Chev stumbled onto the early CS capture, couldn't intervene, prepared for an invasion which never came, then Chev and Inc failed to gaurd their cities and sent boats to fail to intervene at another CS capture? Meanwhile they still have Lahore under siege and they might lose that as well?! The two Phoenician biremes are surrounded and about to get blitzed, and two longships are about to go and pillage Chevs capital? I believe that Inc should have ignored Chev and just blitzed his own CS and then focused on covering Chev. As it is it feels like Chev will not get to Jongs before we get to alliance and then longships will get the first strike from the ocean given how appalling his tech rate is.

Oh that's interesting.
A heads up I'm out all day tomorrow so not going to be able to play my turn until after 1700. Don't rush this one on my account.

Turn 57
Shipbuilding will be researched at start of T59 unless I swap away next turn.
I think the minimum number of boats which could be left would be 10 but that woudn't allow all of the attacks every turn to farm the additional XP?
My question is if the Embolon Bireme is going to try and head around the north of Lorath to join up with the Indonesian galleys, as that is the only way I think it escapes? Any other direction it gets 3v1'd and dies immediately...The southern pack is dead over the next 3 turns, and does the damaged longboat east of Lorath have a promotion?
Purely because this is a weird position to be in...if we do pop a GP, would you build a HS in a safer location, or use either of the current two HS as the holy cities? Would it matter?

One of the questions that often gets asked is: "How do you win from here?" But I don't like that question as it makes most players look inward rather than considering the game as a whole.
Hence I like the question "How do you lose the game from here?"
And right now I got nothing short of throwing away one of the navies, another player somehow reaches a tech/civic breakpoint before we do (but we have the pillage reward and greater per turn outputs, and hugher production advantage over everyone) and they can somehow conquer the lands around Portugal amd Japan to equalise the outputs. Not sure what you see?

Circumnavigation with one unbroken line of longboats would be a fantastic end game screenshot.
