[PLAYER THREAD] Brian's Awesome Thread of Awesomeness

What's your scheduled playing window (I've never been involved in a PBEM, but that's how it normally works, right)? If it's early-evening UTC I should be able to cover  - 17:00-19:00 is my best time, but I can probably do a little bit later. I think one of the other players is also Western Europe / UK / Ireland though IIRC. I may have some trouble covering weekends, depending on family commitments. Worst case should be the pace dropping to every-other-day for those two weeks.

Competence and accuracy should not be assumed, but I should be able to put up some sort of report and pictures.

In the setup thread I said 18:30 to 23:00 (can stretch the finish time a bit). Though on Fridays it will often be later, I'm involved with Cobh Ramblers, and I'd have other days doing other things too. Weekends are usually more flexible.

After March, I've no plans until at least September.

Here is your start. Only trust your BFC. Everything else is shadow and illusion.

So far looks good.  First impressions, to the north is not great land (thinking possibly bad backines, because you'd want players to settle towards each other).  SIP gives the hammer bonus but puts all food bonuses at 2 tiles distance.

1 south may be a good move, gives access to the wheat, immediate access to happy on Calendar (and a happy resource I'd probably cottage/aristofarm all excess sources).  It does lose the bonus.  There is a hill immediately south of the wheat, if that's a plains hill, then it becomes a much better site and leaves the pigs for a second city (possibly a coastal plant for boats).

Interesting choices.  I'm up home the weekend but have access to EitB (not yet the tweaks, but that's a small file) so I'll do some simming.  In the mean time Naufragar, I'll lock in Einion of the Elohim as my choice.

On the BFC it looks like a map so far with some interesting choices, with a bit of luck you'll have given me 20 grassland floodplain gold mined railroaded tiles in the fog tongue. But yeah, looking good.

I don't think you can trust that the hill S of the wheat is real. Moving to the river helps with health and makes getting Dereptus up at the capital an option, although if the map is lush with happiness that may not be a priority.

Just to double check - is the game starting in a more advanced era, so with a bunch of improvement techs already in place? If so, probably needs a detailed sim to work out the balance between moving the worker onto the hills to get the pigs as opposed to staying on the flat and getting more tiles into play faster.

All discovery techs are granted bar Bronze Working and Archery. Exact list is in the setup thread. Will have to run sims re tech paths &c as well.

On the hill, if the screenshot is from the actual map, a hill is there. I'm inclined to think it is.

Ok I've a test save for the opening turn done up if anybody wants to help me sim the game (hint, hint).  Or if you just want to play the game out in SP.  I've myself placed on a 6X6 island with what was shown above mapped out correctly and an extra line of plain tundra tiles surrounding.  And the sea around that should be ocean.

One thing I didn't do was to place the other players with their right civs, because I don't know what those civs are (also I think I've one too many AIs on the map, but that won't matter for the early turns).

Edit: Reupped test save, had a grassland flood plains in by mistake
Did a qick and dirty 32 turn playthrough to see what I could do. With Settle in place and no civic swaps (definitely a mistake) got Worker>Elder Council>Warrior>Settler out of the cap, which grew to size five (didin't optimise this, got a couple of turns of scientist citizen rather than working tiles). The worker improved Wheat>Pigs>Cotton>Road>Cotton>Plains hill mine. The settler settled 3 tiles SW of the capital. Bronze Working in 30 turns (there may be a thing for going religion first here, maybe Message from the Deep).

The early game will definitely be quicker than a normal game, but not massively so.

Looking at the game some more, and simming starts moving one south or one south east and founding on the river is nice. It does give up the hammer per turn of the plains hill start, but with us getting a free worker to start, that is not so important.

Obviously if something totes amazeballs pops up in the fog, then I'll change my mind, but it's looking like one south or one south east and off we go.

Yeah, with the limited information it's hard but moving to the river and away from the tundra is nice. I'd suggest getting the pigs second ring if there's nothing else in the alternative BFC, but we won't know that until the game actually starts ...

On current information 1S is the best plant. Have no sight of the save yet though.
