Not a whole lot of info, nothing on game mechanics, no release date. Ed Beach is creative director (for whatever that means as far as actual role.)

It's relatively standard now that the lead dev builds the base game then moves on, and a new person builds the expansion packs and tue next base game. Been that way since at least civ 3...

Still I expect the game will need all the additional work so will not be finished until 2030...

Lets hope they kill 1UPT this time, it really does kill the game.

1UPT is probably the only thing saving the late game.

Has Civ late game ever been good? Just cut the game in half. Have one mode that goes from ancient to renaissance, then another that goes from renaissance to future. Civilizations could have separate UU/UB's for the two modes. Civilizations that weren't in both eras would have "speculative fiction" UU/UB's. That said, this would hurt sales even if it made the game more fun, so not gonna happen.

I now realize that is what Paradox does with its games. Perhaps for a good reason.

The other option would be to revamp the core Civilization formula.

I would rather have stack combat and multiple units per tile than 1 UPT.

Yeah I’m not sure Krill, 1UPT micro is a royal pain compared to stack management
Old World manages to do a good job with the orders system

How does orders work with a FFA setting? Seems it would be easy to team up on someone.

I like the army concept in theory, would like to see it expanded on. Late game is largely conceptualizing units into stacks for Civ4 anyway

Yeah orders do not really.. work for an FFA setting, or you can probably order units on two fronts, but shuffling between fronts is prohibitively order intensive unless you have a naval transport by culture or anchoring.
the game kinda works best in a duel or team set up, also because the economic growth is not in direct opposition to regular development, its better suited to being an always war game. (Ie in civ4 you can have cottages or whip off them, in Old World you can train officers to produce your units faster and they’ll also give good science as urban specialists)
