Even if you don’t have full surprise…
I mean sure he could have put out a bunch of Settlers & Workers, but go back and look at his screenshots; he’s boxed in. There are no more mainland spots for him to put cities, so he has a choice of making more land space for himself or a speculative investment in Sailing to grab 2 island spots of questionable value (from what he can see), and even if he did the latter he has to push against someone, so why not do it now?

I mean again, failure in scouting. But ya his execution is very good. Consider his attack numbers vs DZs. I'm really curious as to trailing numbers..... off to ask.
Edit: look at his mini map and contacts. He has explored now. But he may have already been committed to this path.

GT offering Yishun for peace — I’m not sure if this is sunk cost fallacy; he really doesn’t seem to realize how impossible to keep that city was. All he’s doing is dragging himself and Scooter down compared to the field and letting Gavagi eat Xist without interference.

I'm confused about what GT is proposing, but it sounded to me like he was getting Yishun back in the peace deal? I've asked for a pic because I completely lost track of what he was saying had happened and Scooter isn't reporting.

To me it sounded like Yishun was empty and he was going to retake anyways. Which begs the question why Scooter advanced at all assuming power graph looked bad or even for him.

Scooters update makes the situation a whole lot clearer.
It seems like GT's thinking is drifting the same way as Donovan's: only seeing the positives and there can't be anything in the fog to threaten that, or that his opponent may have the same capability he does: "I'm bringing my reserves up" ... "I'm going to boat him" ... that he is fully in control of the situation when that is nowhere near certain.

I've talked before about the different tiers of tactical thinking. They were both on level 1, what can I do to my opponent. Ironically they both decided on "move troops by different route to threaten a target". Its just Scooter moved his south by boat and GT went around north by land. But Scooter not being agg / having impi is more disadvantaged in a scenario where troops passed each other basically.

Donovan's plan does rather depend on metal taking peace before he declares on Miguelito ... because I'd estimate there's zero chance he'll take it Donovan does declare himself into a 2v1. Of course I can't ask what his plan is for the eventuality that metal doesn't accept, nor can I ask what he plans to do in 10t time once that peace expires and he's almost guaranteed to be in a 2v1 (unless GKC crashes into the far side of metal and distracts him).

It looks like DZ's plan has hit its first crippling snag already, possibly saving him from initiating a self-dogpile. Reading between the lines of the various threads (Gavagai's being the key one) it looks to me like Metal attacked out and killed at least seven of DZ's units - enough to effectively shred the Incan offensive. DZ even recognized the threat of something like this - he said he was kicking himself for failing to add melee stack defenders to support his northern mounted units, though I suspect he may have underestimated the danger to his southern stack, positioning it to hit Miguelito and forgetting the importance of still protecting it from his current war enemy, and it's even possible he lost one of his Galleys - but just how much damage he suffered remains to be seen....
