[spoilers] Commodore is strategic in Pitboss 74

Oh no, I've been "spotted".
Amphibious is a scary promotion, which is why I'm glad I'm attacking the Vikings and not being attacked.
Lost three knights, which is about expected. I refrained from naming every single one "PYFT", but it was difficult. City captured, with lighthouse and courthouse intact. Woot.
Pushing forward a knight (darn culture being annoying), I spot Plemo's biggest galley fleet. Very dangerous, and if he pushes all-in and they're fully loaded with zerks, he's retaking the city. But if he does that, I also get to liquated (heh) his main fleet and my follow-up punishes him severely, so I guess we'll see.
Tactical situation. I sent diplo to Tarkac about me getting 2, him getting 11...hopefully he sees he can push in while Pin is still busy and actually conquer Plemo now.
I want a strong Tarkac, feeling good about me. After all, they can counteract Pin too...

There's a nasty thing lurking out here; Gavagai (#1 in score and soon #1 in city count) is fixin' to land Liberalism. I can't stop him from doing that, but I can pressure him to fire early and at least not land anything better than Nationalism or Economics:

There was a brief moment when I considered cancelling all plans and going full-steam into Pin this turn, let me tell yah...

Give us a scale and how you are feeling on it. I feel like we need a scale for these situations and as the creator of the Ottowa scale I assign you this task.

Hrm. I need a "small injury" scale, it's true. I'd love some examples, between "scout snipe" and "galleonizing Vasteras"...Mon. de Irache is definitely pretty high on the scale.

Never lacking for interest, this game. Pindicator landed Optics, which has to mean he's on the way to Astronomy and Galleons. I sent him a flurry of screens to see if we can be friends still; if not I'm going to have to power up all along the border and cede the game to Gavagai.

I'm okay with giving that iron island to Pin and moving on to here; the tribal villagers gave me a modest 45g tribute instead of something awesome like Education, but I appreciate the gesture.

The Paya City is pretty well defended, but Plemo is now tied up with a ridiculous amount of garrisons needed in so many cities...
...and Tarkac seems to have finally figured out this is their last and only chance.
Hurry up gentlemen, I need you counterweighting Pindicator.

Dang Plemo. I'm not going to be making much sense in my diplomatic messages with Pindicator, basically that he's allowed to have this isle as a stepping stone to GKC conquest.
...but this bigger landmass is my investment. At least two, probably three cities will be here; it's going to be a challenge dealing with this many plains. The tiny river is a fresh water source, though, so there's definitely stuff to do. I think I win a hypothetically Always Peace from here on out.

It's not though...Amicalola is still doing massive work on keeping Pindicator tied down, this has to be frustrating.
Meanwhile, I'm tying down Plemo forces while SD and Tarkac...do nothing. shakehead I'm going to have to frigate up here, which is not a quagmire I want.

The other main contender who isn't in a quagmire is Gavagai. He's gone through GT like crap through a goose, just brutal. And check out this very nice piece of post-Astro land due south...that'll be nice to grow on.

Neat game, pity it's being STRANGLED by Plemo.

Well this isn't filling me with confidence. Pindicator can't win by attacking me, but if he decides he wants to make Gavagai victor, he's got it.

I'm holding off on firing the golden age for two things; first, I want some manner of confidence on the Sumerian border. Second, if I can snipe Economics via bulb that also lands the free GM. Gavagai has Liberalism, but he cannot be allowed to sandbag.
A third golden age is pretty easy to land. The first GP will out of the capital, abusing the fact that capital GPool processes first. Pacifism+GA makes it easy to get a 54GPP 4-turner out, then the next lands the next turn, then the next lands the 6th turn. This worthless capital will give us something, though.

This is actually a little stressful (also PB76 spoiler):
For one brief and shining moment, I'm leading in both my games.

Feels pretty genuine, although in both cases there's a LOT of fragility. I love this era though, glad to be in it, twice.

Talk to us about settling plans then. And if you really don't want to do work on Friday, talk about the development routes, impact on tech, defense of the realm and what passes for diplomacy in this game.

Okay, well, I'll start with the first question.

Main overseas colonies right now are in the South Mayan Sea, with Acquire/Squander as genuinely very powerful cities, Rail Barron will be a little hungrier but those heavy forests get it going fast. Two more settlers are in the galleon chain for Diplomacy and Kingmaker, note that TwixT and Speed Circuit will also have enough forests to get granaries without whipping too. Those forests are invaluable for getting everything going fast.

North Mayan Sea, there are four very fine cities available, but the trouble is that they're all a lot more exposed, while also having fewer forests to quickly get everything up and running. It'll be worth the investment if my allies ever jump on board, but until then, it's just a little wistful. Maybe if I have another Slavery era post-GA.

Finally, there's another THICKLY wooded subcontinent in the French Ocean, the dotmap unfinalized until next turn with the explorer+caravel scanning for what there is to see. Any city planted here gets up and running insanely fast with chops, but the very brown island is unfortunately only fed by clams, plains sheep, and a single floodplain. Lot of irrigation chaining needed here, which is okay with Biology this close I suppose. This is ironically my safest New World, given the stalling out of Gingelito up north.

You still owe me an injuries scale.

So for lurker interaction you get a question. Favorite sea shanty?
