[No players] Big epic lurking - PB74

Yeah, the game's essentially over at this point. It was the right move to make and thare is essentially no counter, except to brawl all along the front and whip everything to the ground. Pin is too far behind to capitalise, and don't make me laugh by saying anything about Ginger and Mig at this point. If Gav can't be stopped here he will get DD and then he wins via conquest (not that any of us have the time to play, report or read about how the game plays out there).

Remind me never to play a game with Plemo.

I'm kind of disappointed with Commodore here. He is a seasoned vet and I expect him to have a thicker skin. He has Kremlin and won't be more than a turn behind getting to oil navies.

It does look like he's about to lose around a dozen cities in short order, and there's no real geographic counterweight available for Gavagai. The doomerism is maybe a bit much, but I don't think he's necessarily wrong?

I'm really curious how long this game will go on. Like, I could see concessions coming if/when Commodore's islands all get torn apart. But also there are players in the game with objectives of their own here, and they may simply want to continue playing for awhile. I really don't know if this game has one week left or 5 months.

Just chucking it out there but that is the risk of throwing a lot of investment into island cities is that someone might come take them before they have paid off. I know he had fun doing it, but really should have crippled Plemo while he had the edge.

Now mind I still think with Kremlin he can do this.

Fwiw I agree with the first, but disagree with the second sentence strongly. He should not have been fighting Plemo in the first place and that is clear to see (it seems Comm also agree with this).

Strongly agreed.

I think you have to read his doomerism in the light of his giving up on the game before the invasion even happened. In that light, it make absolute sense.

It's actually sort of crazy how few players are left in this game before Destroyers even come online. 19p game, and 10 are fully eliminated by ~T200. Of the 9 remaining players, 5 are more or less playing out the string. This leaves just 4 players who could have any semblance of contention, and lumping all 4 of them into that bucket is ... generous.

As for the Commodore stuff, yeah, it's pretty obvious his turn pace complaints caused him to play suboptimally. I guess what I'd say is that 1) he would likely agree with this assessment, and 2) he likely does not really regret it.

One reason I didn't read here for the plemo war: Commodore says it's for "punishment" but he also needs ports for his big naval war vs Gav.
Only two landneighbours left which both are "friends", so where does he get new territory? Were those islands already enough to have a chance to win? I don't know.
I agree that a "far away territory" is suboptimal but I don't see the optimal option. Backstabbing Tarkeel, maybe, but a landarmy would probably make Pindicator more nervous than a fleet on the other side of the map. just saying...

On the other hand, I don't quite understand why Commodore is talking doom because that's what he anticipated for ages. All those drydock and kremlin were built for a reason.

As far as I can tell, Gavagai played a great game and if nobody can stop him now, he get's a deserved win. At least try to battle him, maybe others will join to stop the leader. Maybe not, maybe they are too weak... either way, it's fine, imo.

Commodore declaring the war and in fact entire game and perhaps even purpose to life over approximately 2T before Gavagi hands it all back for peace is just beautiful.

I was surprised Gav gave it back vs making Commodore take it back, but ya I don't have any doubt he could have, so maybe Gav just wanted to buy time.

Anyone have issues with Gav liberating / giving two cities back to Greenline. Liberating I don't think people would. If for some reason he can't liberate, this game has good faith deals. Greenline is getting cities back for free but Gav is getting strategic culture so seems ok.
