For the map settings, are we going with the following:

Have bigger maps: standard size

I'd prefer "Start anywhere" and "break pangea".
I only started a couple of maps that allowed pangea and they were both pangeas. If allowing pangea means we always get pangea then I'd rather "break pangea", OTOH my sample space was 2.
Other settings look fine to me.

"Allow pangaea" doesn't give blobs.
Actually having generated a couple of dozen maps break pangaea and start anywhere increase the liklihood of someone being isolated until Astro, or crammed in a corner with most land only accessible at Astro.

Could we ask a lurker to check the map for just that scenario?

Sure, I can sanity check a map for specifically that issue.

Also, Im fine starting before my trip. Wouldn't be too tough for a lurker to cover those turns with instructions. Should at least post starts and see what we rolled for leaders so people can plan during that week.

I said before that I'm happy to play on any map, hence me not commenting on the map discussion Totestra is fine

I think this is something we need to discuss because it's a multifactorial issue. My view is that I want to "test" if we can get a good (read: enjoyable) game without any lurker involvement. In other words, we have no one to blame but ourselves and the RNG when something goes wrong.
Secondly, I'm not sure I actually have a problem playing a Totestra map and being stuck on an Astro island with raging barbs. I just want to build, and 5 player games don't have an awful lot of variability in them anyway. Specifically, Totestra maps are big, true rushes aren't really viable. There is going to be significant building going on and that means we don't have many previous games to compare this to. So I'm probably OK with playing even with that risk.
Thirdly, a five player Totestra maps will put players in positions there are only one neighbour, and this happens on every map.
With that said, "Break Pangaea" and "Start Anywhere" will routinely give us 3/2 or 4/1 astro separated areas as some players start in the new world, and some in the old, and hence a greater variation on the amount of land. "Allow Pangaea" sometimes puts everyone on the same landmass (or coastally connected landmasses), or sometimes gives teh same maps as "Break Pangaea" (shouldn't be surprising, I imagine the break pangaea option first generates a map then runs an additional check). Having generated several dozen maps, I would suggest that "Allow pangaea" actually gives better looking maps and is a clear cut winner.
The main question is which of the start location options we want to use:
- Start in Old World
- Start Anywhere
- Everyone on largest landmass
- Everyone on second largest landmass
It should go without saying, "Start Anywhere" usually gives use the starts furthest apart, but not always; i've seen some starts where an advanced start areas touch or slightly overlap. The other three settings essentially bunch us up a bit but usually gives us expansion areas and will lead to significant Astro naval battles/positioning/wars of colonisation. OTOH, I've seen maps place new world areas (or second largest landmasses etc) within galley range of one player where it's not even close to reasonable. I would suggest that "Start anywhere" (as Thoth suggests) is the better option, unless we choose the "bigger maps" option, in which case any of the options are fine.

Other point, is the player order Commodore>Thoth>Pin>Krill>Yuri (with random player first?)

Might be better off with me between Krill and Yuris? There were some times in 76 when I went to bed shortly before Yuris played (turn order was Yuris--Me---Pindicator---Commodore.
I'm ok with either having a lurker check for isolation or with just going with whatever gets rolled. Prefer break pangea and start anywhere for max elbow room and minimum appeal of "settle on horses and chop chariots"
