[LURKER THREAD - NO PLAYERS] it ain't easy being green

3/1 banana and plains hill start = build workboat first every time, even for outer ring crab/clam. Inner ring fish is just nuts: You get to size 2 and then work two solid tiles whilst building the worker. Growth@2 eot 7, workboat eot8, worker eot15 and 2/24 in the food box. Worker first gives worker eot9 and then growth@2 eot15 with farming the rice, but the workboat is only 12/30. It's even up in commerce.

One more round of starts. I went through them again to make sure they met the criteria of having five flat grass tiles each, some forested, some unforested. The rest I left a mix of grass and plains hills - I didn't feel like splitting hairs on those.

Start A:

Start B:

Start C:

Start D:

Start E:

Besides that, I also added a bit of jungle / hills in border regions to accentuate defensible terrain, and threw in more whales / calendar resource pairs to facilitate trading.

there's no way D would want to move 1N to get the sheep, is there? then settle a fast, coastal second city and chop a work boat for the capital fish? i don't know how long it would take that to come out ahead of krill's SIP-workboat open but maybe there are civs with which it might, if you take a non-fishing civ and intend to delay fishing for a while... say, pick china and open AH -> BW -> massive wave of early chops, or something like that

But I do think it's best not to encourage the greens to have to sim it as an alternative, so I removed the option to settle on the banana for start C without orphaning the cow.

Apologies for being a little late to the comment-party here, but I really suggest taking the time to read my mapmakers guide (linked in signature as Maps). The thing with bananaforests is that you usually don't plantation them, but turn them into cottages or lumbermills. I'd also make sure everyone has equal access to farming them before civil service.

Agree with Krill here, these are incredibly juiced; effectively 3 1/2 food starts with the banaforest. I'd suggest removing the cow, or possibly swapping it to a plainshill sheep (hill would lessen the tech requirements somewhat, as you can profitably mine them)

The starts are fine as they are.

I look forward to seeing the reaction of our (presumably SP playing) newbs. Should be good.

Greenline will be back in two days; I can randomize and post the starts lter today if there are no objections, or we can wait for him to get back.

Better wait for him. Maybe greenline wishes to do some last minute changes.

Back a day early, hooray. I'm going to go ahead and randomize the starts and send out the screenshots - I ready your map thread, Tarkeel, and I think the cow should not be a huge tech burden because it is positioned so that players will be able to share it with prospective second city sites. I also grabbed screenshots of the surrounding areas for each start, which shows a couple of the last minute map changes I made after thinking on it a good deal while on vacation.
